...Since only clubs playing at 1st Division can join Libertadores...

Is that a Conmebol rule? What does CBF say about it?

That is a Conmebol rule for Libertadores. However, I've read that Brazil is exempted from it, because it is the only country that have strong State Championships that qualify for Copa do Brazil (and therefore for one Libertadores spot). Once Santo André plays 1st division of São Paulo State Championship, it would be entitled to play Libertadores 2005 (if they win Flamengo, of course).

Anyway, CBF asked and Conmebol accepted.

There have been lots of info around but nobody knows anything for sure. And of course, as always, CBF is useless.

1st leg result: Santo André 2 x 2 Flamengo

2nd leg to be played next week at Maracanã. Flamengo with the advantage of drawing by 0-0 or 1-1 to be champions. Another 2-2 draw will take the match to PKs.

Que vergonha.

Flamengo is a very poorly organized team, and based on this game tonight did not deserve to win. Felipe is not a good enough player to base your whole offense on his isolations (I've been surprised that it has worked to this point in this competition). His development as a player is being stunted with this approach as well.

Did you guys hear the annoucer say that Brasil has exported 4000 players in the past 5 years? Can this be true? Did I hear wrong, or was he high?

FT: Flamengo 0 x 2 Santo André.

Santo André champions of Copa do Brasil 2004.

I just picture the other South-American teams next year at Libertadores loooking at Santo André and asking "who are they??"

This is the biggest embarassment of the history of Flamengo, hands down.

Now..we see that "rage" is part of football too.Tech without willpower...Santo André,Copa do Brasil champions ^^

Hail from ABC.We deserve it.

P.S.:"T-Shirt and Stadium" don't gives victory.Maybe only Vila Belmiro or La Bombonera?Anyway, that's why I REALLY love 2nd or 3rd Championships. They play cause they like to play.Only that.

Friends,

I need a favor. I am writing you from Turkey. We heard that we are going to transfer "Ajder" (I do not know if correct) from Santo Andre. I appreciate if you provide information about this midfielder.

Thanks in advance.

Flamengo 0 x 2 Santo André

Wow. Finally saw the final game last night (had class on Wednesday). I am incredibly disappointed in Flamengo. Both teams started out weak and unsure, testing each other out, and where Flamengo should have picked up the pace and started applying pressure after the first 15 minutes or so, they didn't. It still took the entire first half for Santo André to figure out what they were trying to do, but that half-time break was good for them. After their first goal (Flamengo, you don't leave a man unmarked, especially one as tall as Sandro Gaúcho, alone in the box on a corner kick), Flamengo went even further downhill. Desparation was very clear in their play after that, and of course, depending on Felipe's "waiting game" is not a good strategy, in my opinion.

My wife and her mom are always kidding me about the weak crowds that we have here in the States for soccer matches. They were pointing out to me how Maracanã was so full (70,000+ ?) - of mostly Flamengo torcedores. (I could not believe how quiet that stadium got after the first goal.) They also kept talking about Santo André's "torcedinha" (which I thought, that's a pretty funny word to these American ears of mine), but to see this small group of fans remaining behind for the trophy presentation, just made me feel pretty good. Sometimes it's the little guys who do the big things, and in this case, it was Santo André who showed the big clubs of Brasil that there are no givens, that nothing can be assumed, and that you need to work for your titles. As dissapointing a result this was for Flamengo, it was a just and fair result.

Congratulations to Santo André! You kept your wits about you, and you won. You deserved it.

Let the shake-up continue...

TRICOLOR BRASIL, just after Santo André defeated Flamengo in Copa do Brazil final. A few days later, Once Caldas defeated the mighty Boca Juniors in the Libertadores final and Greece managed to beat the host Portugal at Euro 2004.

This should be printed in some newspaper or magazine!

We attended as Fla supporters even though our group was led by a Fluminense club member and consisted mostly of expats, a large contingent of which was from of all places Dublin. Official paid attendance was 73,300, but as we had to wait near the entrance until our 51-strong group finally managed to enter the stadium past the cavalry, police, and throng of Brazilians without tickets, we were counting about 2 unpaid entrants for every 9 who entered with a ticket, so our guess was a total attendance of nearly 90,000, 89,300 of them Flamengo supporters (or persons disguised as such!). During this time we saw elevenn arrests (mostly the idiot crashers who high-fived each other once barely inside the gate!), one cavalry charge, a little pepper spray, and much banging of batons on the retaining barriers.

Flamengo's defense was simply not marking closely, and there were many more opportunities than real efforts by Santo Andre. Having seen Fluminense defend very poorly against bottom-of-the-table Botafogo and still draw the prior weekend, we were lulled into thinking that Fla could emulate Flu and get away with it, but ultimately the second division team managed to score, and score again, at which time we began wondering how we were going to exit Maracana. To their credit, I would say the Santo Andre defense was well organized.

After the whistle, we stayed 40 minutes inside the stadium and missed the worst of it, repairing to Cervantes for sandwiches and chopp. Definitely worthwhile, an e-ticket ride sans safety rail, not that one was really needed.http://www.pacificcoastsoccer.org/rev/Malone063004c.jpg
