CORINTHIANS 1 x 0 VITÓRIA
Corinthians wins the 1st leg with an 8th minute goal from Jô. Corinthians controled the match from the start. The crowd at Pacaembu sounded good. Vitória will try for their 13th consecutive home victory in the 2nd leg next week. For his part Pedro has predicted a victory for Vitória. Thanks for the overview, I didn't get to see most of the game last night as I had school, only caught the last ten minutes when they were playing a "holding pattern" strategy (up by one, why bother to continue pressing the attack?... man, I hate that strategy!) At least they did show some spirit in the few minutes that Vitória possessed the ball, and did not appear to be suffering too much of their characteristic (for this year, anyway!) "sleeping sickness"...
I can just see it now - Corinthian's (by some fluke) wins Copa do Brasil, and then earns 21st or 22nd place in Brasileirao and gets relegated to Serie B for next year ;) !

I totally back you up on this. Just like when they won the Copa Do Brasil against Brasiliense 2 years ago. Except it wasn't luck or fluke, it was a clear help from the referee. Just like they always do it, with the ref's help. ;)

You're right, of course - I should not have said "fluke", but instead have said "anything other than personal skill" :D, because I still can't believe right now they will win that way...
Such is life!

2nd leg, quarterfinals:
Vitória-BA 2 x 0 Corinthians-SP
Flamengo-RJ 0 x 0 Grêmio-RS
Palmas-TO 0 x 1 XV de Novembro-RS
So the semis are:
Flamengo-RJ x Vitória-BA
XV de Novembro-RS x {Palmeiras | Santo André}-SP
Go fifteen, this year's underdog!

Vitória 2 x 0 Corinthians
No help from the ref last night ;) !
To be honest, I'm a little relieved that Corinthians got knocked out at this point, not earlier, but also that they didn't go on to win the Copa. I feel they need to work on their gamesmanship, iron out their idiosyncracies and just generally "get better" before they win any finals (Brasileirao included). They just don't deserve it right now, as harsh as that sounds.
Flamengo didn't seem to be a solid attacking threat against Grêmio last night - I think they could afford to pick it up a little, too.
Again, congratulations to Vitória - I'll be rooting for them here on out to win the Copa!

Palmeiras tied with Santo André at home (4-4) and are out of the semifinal by the away goal rule. Now one of the semifinals will be an underdong clash with Santo André and XV de Novembro fighting for a place in the final against the winner of Flamengo x Vitória.
If Flamengo can only get past Vitória...we will not have such big chance in a long time.

Same for Santo André.Ramalhão now can become a great club like São Caetano(and I was at stadium tonight at SC vs Boca 0-0)...now maybe Palestra de São Bernardo can win the B-1 and at least we'll have a good ABC draft someday heh?
Go Santo André \o/
P.S.:I talked.Football is rage...and "little" squads win by this rage.Santos yesterday proved that football ins't ony talent - you have to play with your heart too.Santo André did that, and that's why I think "we" can win Copa do Brasil.

For what it's worth, it seems as if Flamengo will have a huge advantage in the semifinals. As I posted in the Vitória thread, they will have to play their home game outside of Salvador for an incident in an earlier game against Internacional. If they have to play the game in Aracaju it's likely to be a virtual away match, as I suspect there would be a large contigent of Flamengo fans. Even if the game is in Feira de Santana Vitória loses their true homefield advantage.

Santo André and XV de Novembro already played the 1st leg in São Paulo: 4 x 3 for XV.

Yeah! I saw this morning on Port SportTV. The two pilars of Brazilian Futebol!!!!
It was a much better game than the two Flamengo games I saw recently.

The only tournament where all the 4 teams in the semis are "zebras".

Iwatched Xv x S. Andre. Poor XV, but that was a better game that many in Brasileirão :)

I saw it too. 15 had too many missed goals, 2 of them without goalie. The last one was incredible: low cross from the left, the goalie misses the ball, and it reaches 15's Canhoto 3 meters from the right post, in front of an empy net. He manages to send a crossed kick with his right foot that goes out... near the left post. If instead of Canhoto (alias for left-handed) was a bag of potatoes, the ball would have bounced in the bag and... goal.

Vitória didn't help themself any by losing at home to Flamengo. The pain goes a little deeper for this one, first because they fought to have this game at Barradão and couldn't use it to their advantage. Secondly, it was arguably the best team they've had on the field for many weeks. I don't have much hope at Maracanã considering Vitória's record on the road.

Yeah,Santo André did that.I'm proud about teams from ABC,hehe.Since I think Santo André will not win Copa do Brasil...but whatever,I'm really happy. ^^
Anyway,I think Santo André x Vitória/Flamengo match will be here in São Caetano.Like Brasileiro 2001 final,Anacleto Campanella can receive a game like that.Pacaembu would receive too,but I afraid about assistence....

Good luck to Flamengo. My early season optimism for Vitória is fading.

We did it!! Ahaha!! Julio Cesar locked the goal and threw away the key!
Now it gets really tricky because Santo Andre has nothing to lose.
Anyway, we can't afford to miss this opportunity to reach Libertadores 2005.

Flamengo WILL play Libertadores next year.Since only clubs playing at 1st Division can join Libertadores, and Santo André lost 12 points at Série B,I think Ramalhão is out...
