During the last 10 seconds of my game yesterday, I kicked the ball exactly the same time another player kicked the ball. After the collision, I received a very strong pain from my knee all the way to my ankle. I couldnt walk for about 5 minutes. Now Im able to hobble around but my leg is a little swollen and my ankle is still moderately swollen. Ive never really got injured like this before so I didnt apply ice. Is it too late to apply ice now? Any suggestions on how to stop the pain mainly around my ankle?

Ice may help, but you may want to have a doctor check you out. A pain that shoots from your knee all the way to your ankle can't be good.

Yep agree, go see the doc! The knee and ankle are very delicate, and any injuries to there is quite messy and take ages to heal (I had a couple before!).

Mate if u did Pe at school u should have followed 'R.I.C.E.' Rest it,Put Ice on it, Compress it on and Elevate it, good for most soft tissue injuries, although you could just have bruising? Or in the worst case u may have a small facrture or splintering of the shin like i did

You should go see a doc... I have done that before, it could be dislocated or you may have even pulled or torn a tendon/ligament.

Doesn't it suck the most to get injured right before the game ends? I twisted my foot during the last few minutes of my match, fractured a bone in my foot (not the ankle). Anybody know how long bone injuries heal? It ain't that bad but healing is sloooooow.

I shattered my fibula in 3 sections, broke and dislocated my ankle and ruptured my ankle ligiments in september and I came back full time at the start of March(Started to do a little ball striking and light foot wrok in January) so they can take a while.
I fractured a bone in my foot around the time of WC 02 and I was suppose to be out for around 4 weeks but I played on it anyway for about a month, then I took three weeks off and it healed fine, I guess it would have healed quicker if it had not been for the 3 indoor games I was playing a week on it.
Healing time all depends on your bodys ability to heal some people are fast some are slow and alos your fitness level, diet and things like if you drink and smoke can also effect you. My Father who is in his mid-50's and smokes way too much as well as not eating as well as he should broke a bone in his foot(5th metatarsal) over the summer all the way through and even though that tends to be a slower healing bone anyway to took him twice as long as the regular person to get over it and he still favors the foot now.

It just healed itself, or did you attend physiotherapy, like ultrasound and stuff? And you didn't even need a cast?

Some small fractures don't need castes, and yeah wot annoys me about getting injured at the end of a game is when you get injured from a pass you probably didnt need to make because the whistle had already been blown lol

For my foot no cast was given just a goofy looking walking shoe.
As for my major injury I had a 9 inch titanium rod put on my fibula with 7 screws, I was in a cast for a week before the operation an in one for 2 weeks after then it was a walking boot so i could take it off and shower more easily, even though i still couldn't put any weight on it until 2 months after the operation.
