Major League Soccer Disciplinary Committee Suspends and Fines
San Jose Earthquakes Defender Chris Leitch
The Major League Soccer Disciplinary Committee today fined San Jose Earthquakes defender Chris Leitch $250 and suspended him one game for egregious and reckless conduct during the Earthquakes game versus the Houston Dynamo on May 23.
Leitch was involved in a play with Houston Dynamo player Brian Ching in the 38th minute that resulted in Ching being injured. The play was reviewed by the Disciplinary Committee and the Committee determined that Leitch’s actions endangered the safety of an opponent. Leitch will serve the one-game suspension when the Earthquakes face the Columbus Crew on Wednesday, May 27.
I guess they missed the other situation that was previous posted or maybe this is the situation that someone was talking about

$250??!! That is laughable. How are the players going to take anything seriously when the disciplinary committee only fines them $250. Whether you like it or not, the NBA doesn't have these problems because you get a $20,000 fine for farting at the wrong time. Whether you love him or hate him, David Stern has that league under control. MLS is..........who knows.

The minimum salary in the NBA is ~$440,000
The minimum salary in MLS is ~$23,000
Are you really saying the two leagues should have the same fines?

Nope, but I'm saying that a fine as measly as $250 is nonsense. It does nothing more than show that the MLS disciplinary committee is not serious about stamping out egregious and irresponsible behavior. The high fines in the NBA and some other professional sports leagues discourage most of the player from acting like thugs. MLS needs to figure out something to do that is comperable and will actually mean something.

This was a bad one by the dimbulbs in the disciplinary committee.
Brian Ching was not fouled, tried to get a call by going down and if he failed disrupt the other players since he'd lost the ball. Ended up playing the ball while laying on the on the ground. Leitch was right there and there wasn't a whistle for dangerous play by Ching. So Leitch tried to play the ball, and Ching sat up abruptly in order to try to block Leitch's path to the ball but making no attempt to play ball since he could reach it from a seated position. Nothing at that point Leitch could do to prevent the contact. Entirely intentional by Ching. No call by Prus who was right there.
And then to add insult to injury, they didn't suspend or fine Denton for the attempted elbow on Kamara.
Then it was laughable in a pathetic sort of way the play in Colombus in the next game. GBS (I think) was playing the ball while on the ground a long time. Simon Elliott wants to play the ball but can't do so safely and pulls up standing there next to him. Looks at the ref, doesn't get a whistle, starts to try again and remembers that according to the disciplinary committee you'll get a fine and suspension for failing to yield the right of way to a player on the ground until they're done playing the ball or trying to prevent upright players from doing so. And so there's poor Simon Elliott standing there, unable to play ball safely, not getting a whistle, hands on hips, head down, wondering how it came to this.
