This is my coaches formula for success. The team that wins will, in order of importance...
1) Play the hardest
2) Transist the best/ have the best transitions
2 1/2) Figure out how to beat the other teams formation
3) have the best ball touches
4) have the most luck
5) clear the ball better
6) have the best set plays/pieces
7) have the best moves
8) have an outstanding player
9) have the best long/deep shots
What are your thoughts on this, would you put them in a different order, include more things? Please weigh in.
Thx all
Austen
PS scoring the most doesnt count! ;)

I see what you're getting at but football is far more complicated than that. I'm sure it's just a rough guide though.
I would say the most important thing is, who is the better team. If one team is better than another, they will beat them most times, no matter what else goes on.
Next is, who wants it more. An inferior team, in terms of ability, can win games by giving 100%, going for every ball and running the other team into the ground.
Formations are important, but not as important, IMO, as a lot of people think. Maybe at the highest level, a tactically good formation can win games but at lower levels of the game, I would say that could be quite low on the list.
The best ball touches? I'm not exactly sure what you mean but whatever you do mean, I think I would probably disagree with that one.
Most luck? Luck can play a part, no doubt. But I'm a beleiver in the saying, "You make your own luck". I don't beleive that luck is an opposition player missing an easy chance or their keeper mucking up. However, luck could be getting a dodgy penalty.
Clear the ball better? Eh, I think that's quite an pointless thing to include on this list. Sorry.
Having an outstanding player can be very important. We've all seen and played in games where one of your players has an absolute stormer and drags the team on to win. If a striker is on fire and scores a few goals, if a keeper plays out of his skin and keeps a clean sheet under extreme pressure. This really cn win a game.

yes, it is more complicated than that, but IMO if you're just a beginner/beginning team, these are things to focus on.
Who is the better team is basically determined by the things in the first post, but yes, you are right, if one team has superior touch, thinks faster, they will usually win, unless the lesser team isnt too far behind and gives 100%, while the better team slacks off a little, if you're good but nobody moves, it wont do you as much good as if you play scrappy and run everywhere while not being as good
as for the luck part - luck means the ball hits a funny bump in the grass and redirects the ball to a striker, or playing on a warped field, or having bad referees that give big calls (ie in the box) that are wrong. It is not having bad skill that makes the bad luck
as for the touch on the ball, this means that if one team is sloppy passing or trapping making it easier for the team to have more possession, then they will win.
as for clearing the ball, I worded that wrong, it meant getting the ball up the field quickly, which i guess should go under transition, but the basic idea is that they dont play with the ball in the 18, you know?
as for the formations - it wasnt who had the BETTER formation, it was if 1 team could find the ultimate flaw in the other teams formation, thus being able to load up the box, have an easy pass/shoot/score situation.

two words. Play Football. thats why i love football so much its so pure. you know? no pads no timeouts no "challenges" just 22 guys and a ball. focus on the three phases. When you have the ball. When they have the ball. and the transition inbetween.

Yeah and know you're team mates strengths and weaknesses, you're only as strong as you're weakest link.
Ps Scoring does count mate cos at the end of the day thats what makes you win!!

yes, i just didn't want someone to say something sarcastic and say, actually, the top thing that you can do to win is score more than the other team

I suppose you're right. If your coach is trying to get the basics drilled into your team then it makes sense to give you a list like that. I was just trying to say that, if you lose a game you can't look back and say "we did this better than them and this, and this, why did we lose?"
I take your point about better teams.
I also see what you mean about touches. It's just that seems a big given. Making simple passes to your own teammates is just such a integral part of the game. But I suppose it makes sense to say, "if you make better use of the ball and don't give away posesion easily, you will win."
When I first saw that list, I didn't think it was that great. But from what you've said and the more I think about it, it is a good idea. It's a good way to set down the basics, I've just never seen it done that way.

yeah, some people see things different, and its just better to have it down on paper. Those type of people are what this list is for
