Okay, its bad enough that this guy is babied beyond belief by the RedSox. But then what does he do in return, he walks out on his teamates. What a little nitch. I'm sure there is more to come, as this is the notoriously moody Pedro. Stay tuned!

Kiss my ass Hang.
Just for biggyv, Pedros latest line...
5 IP, 8 H, 7 R, 4 BB, 3 K, 2 HR, 103 pitches
The game went 11 innings. I can neither confirm or deny that he walked out on his teamates during this one. Anyone else know?

I love the Sawwwx fans obsession with Pedro. Face, he's a prick. Good pitcher, but a prick. He has this primadonna attitude and thinks he's a bad ass. I have a soft spot for the Sox since they hate the Yankees like us Mets fans, but Pedro's a bitch.
Oh and Hang, after the game, Pedro went to the clubhouse and played cards with Rickey Henderson and Bobby Bonilla.

True, Pedro is the classic definition of a diva, at least in how he comes across to the public.
But if you watch the Sox ever, you'd notice that whenever they flash to shots of the dugout out on his off days, there's Pedro smiling, joking, talking to all his teammates. Heck, I remember games from a couple years ago when he would stand on the dugout steps between innings, playfully exchanging banter with opposing players.
Bottom line: he seems like a great teammate, but he's also the classic type of player the insane Boston sports press loves to villify. They make British tabloid soccer writers look sane.

From Michael Silverman in the Boston Herald:
Every team in the majors, including the Yankees, will get a crack at signing free agent-to-be Pedro Martinez next year after the Red Sox ace haulted negotiations with the team yesterday.
Martinez said he would pursue free agency at the end of the season after never receiving a long-term contract extension offer from the ballclub this winter and spring.
Having already extended his own deadline for calling off talks by a month, Martinez had his agent, Fernando Cuza, notify Red Sox GM Theo Epstein and team president and CEO Larry Lucchino yesterday that Martinez will no longer speak with the ballclub this season.
Martinez' decision does not rule out him signing a new deal with Boston, since the Red Sox will retain exclusive negotiating rights after the World Series. However, Martinez will now allow that negotiating period to lapse and then entertain talks with other teams.
"I'm just really sad for the fans in New England who had high hopes that at this time I could say, truly, that I was going to stay in Boston, but now they're going to have to compete with the rest of the league," Martinez said before last night's game.
Martinez is making $17.5 million this season and acknowledged over the winter that he would probably have to take a pay cut.

"When negotiations broke down on a new deal that April, and the club exercised the 2004 option, Martinez insisted he never asked for Manny money, or anything close. He was willing to take a lot less, he claimed, and that people would be "shocked" to hear what he was willing to take.
Well, a year later, it is now coming out what Martinez was willing to take to remain in a Sox uniform. According to a baseball source with direct knowledge of the negotiations, the proposal he made to the Sox did fall far short of Ramirez money. He didn't ask for a five-year deal, as had been widely speculated.
What he asked for, according to the source, was a three-year deal, plus an option, that would have paid him between $2 million to $3 million less than he is being paid this season, and $500,000 less than Randy Johnson's contract with the Arizona Diamondbacks. The source was vague on whether Martinez was willing to take less than the $15 million Johnson was paid in 2003, or the $16 million he is being paid in each of the next two seasons, but it was still a sizable reduction."

Pedro lost a lot of respect after game 7 debacle against NYY last year saying he was fine and then later telling the press he was tired and Grady should have known. Whatever! He wanted to beat the NYY and be a hero and he could not get it done. Granted Posada's rinky dink hit was lame as hell but still. Screw him. Sox should resign Varitek, Nomar and Lowe.
Watch how many quality starting pitchers are on the market next season.
How much $ is enough for Pedro. yeah he used to be a great teammate but ask the Sox now what they think about him and his selfish attitude.
He could learn a lot by listening to Schilling.
But more importantly, when Boston wins it all this year, which they will then what happens to Pedro? Let's see....

Ask any pitcher, especially of the caliber of Pedro, and they'll give you the same answer "I can still go". It doesn't mean he can, but in his heart he can. Little was the moron who didn't take him out and go to his bullpen (which was explosive in the playoffs).
And the Sox should not resign Lowe. Lowe may be the most hated Red Sox on the team now. He is the definition of a prima donna. A couple good season behind the best pitcher in baseball and he thinks he's a high quality ace. Guess what Lowe, your not. And last night's performance against TB showcased what you are all about.

Agree the Tampa Bay game was plain awful, hopeful Lowe can regain some of his 2002 form, but starting to wonder if that is ever going to happen. Hope he improves.

Pedro is way too cocky. Someone needs to punch him in the face and put him in place. Hopefully David Wells out pitches him this Tuesday when the Padres head to Boston for interleague play. Oh yeah, I hate Albert Pujols too.

I'm sure you defended Clemens when he did this as a Yankee.
You don't ******** with Pedro, as you shouldn't ******** with any good pitcherr when you call time twice as he's ready to throw. Sheffield's lucky he didn't do that crap to Bob Gibson, or else he'd be eating through a straw right now.
Ironically, primadonna little bitch is a pretty good summation of Gary Sheffield, a man who has made enemies at every stop in his major league career. This is a man who has admitted intentionally committing errors and dogging it in Milwaukee so he could be traded.
Pedro is probably the best pitcher ever, so if any moronic Red Sox fan wants him gone, I question their sanity.
Part of Pedro's appeal to me is his contempt to the media, who relish running non-white stars out of town (Nomar's their new candidate), but all those who are close to the team describe Pedro as the ultimate teammate.
And Pedro leaving early is a minor, at best, issue. This happens much more often than you think.

I especially like how Torre thinks Leskanic threw at Sheffield on purpose. I mean, what logic is there to hitting Sheffield in a tight ballgame like the other night? Makes no sense to me. Of course, Torre defended Clemens when he beaned Mike Piazza, then threw a spear/shattered bat back at him all in the same season. But what the hell do I know?

Pedro isn't the best pitcher ever. The better pitchers of baseball don't through fastballs at batter's heads because they're having a little temper problem. They also don't throw elderly men to the ground.
Solution: 1. Pitch inside, but not at someone's head. 2. Grab the man, and prevent him from hitting you. I'm sure that a Zimmer punch is going to hurt sooo much.
If you saw the interview, Torre was upset with the fact that a warning had been issued, but the umpire decided not to follow it. It's like calling a triple play on that double play.
