If i might quote my own post:
From the article ("page" 3)
"But we read nothing of bone growth, no reports of pediatricians monitoring him through the adolescent growth spurt that comes to most youths between 14 and 18. If Adu is playing a man's game in Major League Soccer, if opponents are racing him and tackling him with no quarter asked or given, as their livelihoods depend on them doing, it may not be the Green Card that his mother needs to be watchful over but the green tips of pliable bones in her son's tender skeletal years."
This is the same concern Wynalda expresses....Considering the physical nature of MLS, can anyone (a doctor? pediatrician?) explain how it could be different (more harmful) if Adu got injured as opposed to a player at least 3-4 years older?

It's a horriable idea but I really liked that article. It was a very different take on the situation and for my mind illustrated the sillyness of pandering to ethnic groups. At the same time he did make a good argument in that if you're going to pander you might was well do it in a genuine and thoughtfull way. Stupid idea, great article though, very interesting take.

This is really the crux of the argument:
MLS has been ambivalent about playing the ethnic card, a risky proposition if not executed with full commitment. In Los Angeles, though, the greater risk in soccer promotion is in de-emphasizing ethnicity.
But, despite the millions of potential fans among the Mexican population, the Latino ethnic card never has been played correctly in the US.
During the days of the North American Soccer League, teams in Los Angeles seldom used Mexican players. And when Mexican ownership was allowed into the league, it was misplaced. The NASL ended up filling the Philadelphia team with Latin players while the San Antonio team contracted Scots. Understandably, these enterprises failed.

Sorry for the multiple posts as I don't know how to or why I can't edit these posts. FDA's argument falls short in estimating the ethnic support here in New England vs in Los Angelos. Using the attendance average for 5 games that they played in the Boro is not goign to be an indicator of an untapped ethnic base here in New England. The lack of immediacy of that ethnic group to its native culture is a huge difference.

Why are the daily articles section now in the blog section and not back in N&A where it has shined for so long?
Seems like a strange switch to me.

It's going to ruin the N&A thread. Can't it be placed on the front page as well as in the N&A section? By going to the N&A section to read this thread you'd see the other interesting threads. Now it's just kinda bland in there.

It's still "there". I think there will be a link to the thread in MLS N&A every day.
Yep. Typically the thread will be started in N&A and moved here. There will still be things worth reading in the forum as well.....
