hey guys im sure alot of you have seen this lately all over the net. Edu is tihnking of playin for england due to constant look overs from brazil. the fa will not even look at it yet, that is until edu gets an english pasport and he is a citizen. what do you al think, this is open to discusison fully. personally i think england would benefit from his skill greatly.

England wouldn't really benefit from him, the only position in midfield open is left wing, and Edu is not a winger or really a wide midfielder. If he was, then great, but he'd only be useful at the top level in the middle. When the likes of Lampard struggle to see serious time in the middle for England, then there's no room for Edu. He's a decent Arsenal squad player on a very good run of form at the moment, but good and bad form is only temporary and he's nothing special.
This is the second time I've responded to a thread on this, maybe the third :D

Just curious here but when was the last time the England National Team played a non-UK national? Similar to Edu with a new citizenship?
If England would be willing to do that they should get Cudicini capped..he's way better than James or Robinson.

But does Cudicini want to, that is the real question. There is no doubt he'd get to play with England, way more than he does with Italy (never).

Cudicini would only displace James and be a starter at Euro 2004. Kirkland and Robinson both have more long term talent than him. Cudicini is going to have a hard time holding onto the Chelsea number 1 jersey, he has great games but he makes too many blunders.
What on earth do you mean play a 'non-UK national'? Do you not understand the rules of citizenship or something?

I think he is asking when was the last time someone who didn't have an english parent or grandparent or wasn't born here played for england. Someone who became a citizen by spending time here is an adult?
Edu would be a uk national rather than an english national i'm guessing, if he wants lots of international football, maybe Wales might be worth a look instead of England, maybe if his form dips, he might start thinking about Scotland as well. Then again, that would have to be one really big dip before he gets that desperate... :p

Thank you Snuffles for pointing out the obvious to sendoragne. Some people need an explanation for everything.

Owen Hargreaves dad is a boltonian. The lad himself was conceived in Bolton.

You are joking aren't you? He should even be allowed in the country in the first place seeing that he arrived here with a false passport.

He still lists playing for Bolton as one of his ambitions. His dad did a real number on him as a kid, eh?:D

No need to worry anymore lads. Edu has just been cap-tied for the Brazil x Hungary friendly this month.

So you could say that his "threat" worked. Got him his callup.

Could be. Even Dedé was called! But still no Aílton.

Don't want him playing for us anyway, we have better than him, but he still remains a good player....

The best English goalie all season has been Nigel Martyn.

Cudicini is overrated and makes too many mistakes. James has been much better this season and will be number 1 in Euro 2004. After the Euros it will be between Robinson and Kirkland, with Robert Green and a fit Richard Wright battling it out to get in the squad.
I agree that Nigel Martyn has been the best English goalkeeper this season, some of his saves and performances have been terrific.

WTF. Born & raised in Calgary, poached by the desperate FA after the even more desperate FAW tried their darndest. What exactly are you fellows spending millions of pounds on in your development programs??? Enquiring Canadian minds would like to know.
