Rookie Clint Dempsey saw his first action, coming on late in the contest for Daouda Kante.

``I thought the pace was fast,'' Dempsey said. ``When you come in just basically running for the first 10 minutes trying to catch the pace of the game. Once it settles down it's pretty fun to be out there.''

Dempsey said playing before 25,152 fans at the Home Depot Center was eye-opening.

``It was like playing in another country,'' he said. ``The atmosphere was just great. The people were really into the game. You don't often see a crowd like that in the United States.'' Nice compliment I think. Also time and time again yous see newcomers to the league, especially rookies, especially rookies talk about the pace of MLS.

Just some great writing in this article. It's opening lines...

WASHINGTON — Here's my take on soccer's next Pele:
So far, much Adu about nothing.

With a name like "Adu" what writer isn't going to use some cliche phrase at least once in his article. And just the fact that Jon Saraceno actually watched a soccer game and is writing about MLS excites me.

BTW, haven't gotten a response yet from that tool Flanagan in KC who wrote a horrific article yesterday.

Well, besides that quote, I actually thought that the article was pretty good. It seemed well-balanced, without the bashing I have grown accustom to from that guy. I wrote him and complemented him on a good article.

After that opening line I kind of zoned out as most of these Adu articles seem to be carbon copies of each other.

Yeah a little. Apparently he's going to the same barber Johny Damon is... I spent most of my time skimming the article looking for the "He's not even old enough to drive!" sentence.

It was a good article, but all that stuff about "we were told he'd be able to run circles around these guys"---Who said that? Even Pele, did he run circles around his peers, every game? I'm sure he had many games where he was rather anonymous, even in his prime.

Ruiz, Galaxy look to feed off Herzog-Carson Daily Breeze (http://www.dailybreeze.com/content/sports/2194566.html)

First best thing about the HDC being in Carson: It's a heck of alot closer than Pasadena.

Second best thing about the HDC being in Carson: The Carson Daily Breeze covering the Galaxy like a hometown team. Another exquisite article by these guys.

Who would've ever guessed that an Austrian could do so well in California.

Adu's debut ends on flat note - Independent (UK) (http://sport.independent.co.uk/football/news/story.jsp?story=508446)

As he ran out on to the pitch, Adu became the youngest player in a major professional US sport since Fred Chapman, also 14, pitched four innings for the Philadelphia Athletics in 1887. Chapman's major league baseball career lasted exactly one game. Adu may or may not be the magic ingredient that turns MLS into a major league spectator sport. But, it may already be safely predicted, his career will last far longer - once, of course, he has finished with his first year at high school.

Somebody might want to tell them he's done with high school already.
