Currently I'm playing competitivie soccer every weekend and I get tired really fast,my stamina is very low and I can't keep up the pace for more than 45 minutes.
I have good pace and acceleration but after a few sprints I'm as good as dead :) .
Right now I run 5 miles twice a week in order to improve my stamina and become a more effective player on the pitch.
So what's your biggest weakness in soccer and how are you trying to improve it?

My biggest weakness? Stamina and speed.. On a good day, I can be the fastest player on the field but recently, my stamina and speed is failing me :( I couldnt keep up anymore and it's really upsetting... anyway, besides that, my left foot is still very much weaker than my right and im playing as LEFT BACK. :o hard job..

LoL! Callump, you must be playing on the left side of the field, frequently, right? :p Anyway, it's true that the ability to use both legs would be good cause that way, your opponents cant trap you easily :)

Hummmmmm... i'm a hell of a lot like you...... play a match or two on weekends. I'm very fast and pacey but my breath is short. That's why I'm usually a sub. My stamina though, is quite good but that's probably because I'm still very young, but I run out of breath easily (and regain it easily).

I think we can adapt to the position which ever leg u are better. i can play across the midfield or as a supporting striker. i am a natural right legger. in fact i think i am better on the left.

Hoever recently i started working on my left coz i am made to play in an forward striker role. i realised as a striker ur abiltly to control with both legs become more important. I come up with a simple exercise that i think its useful. u need a fren to help. place a few cones. and with ur back facing them ask ur fren to place the ball in front of one of the cone. when u turn run toward the ball and collect it without knocking the cone over. eventually u can control the ball better

If you guys want to get better stamina for games, you do NOT want to run long distances for training. Your body contains two types of muscle fibres - short fibres for explosiveness and strength, and long muscle fibres for endurance. The problem is that as you run long distance, you are training your muscles and lungs for long and steady activity - you pace yourself to last longer. This is how we maximize our long muscle fibres.

But you can't pace yourself in a game can you..... one minute you are walking, the next you are making a 40 yard sprint. Everything you do in a game is at maximum output. That is why you tire so easily and why it takes a while to recharge your batteries.

If you want to train for endurance in a game, train the way you play. I suggest that you do jog/sprints - alternating jogs and sprints. Try this one - start at midfield stripe on the sideline, jog slowly to the corner, jog across the endline, and when you hit the other corner, turn and sprint to midfield. When you hit midfield slow down with small steps so that you load the muscles in your legs with a lot of stress, then begin jogging again. Jog to the corner, jog the endline, and sprint from the corner back to your original starting point - this contistutes one lap. Run 3 to get started, then work up to at least 5.

This is just one example, I have a million more if you want them.

As for you guys with a weak foot, don't be stupid, the only way to get better with it is to overload it with touches. Everytime you do skill drills, or juggle, make yourself do two touches on your bad foot for every one touch on your good foot.

thats what i have been doing lately and my right foot is getting better with passes/shots.

My biggest weakness is that i will hold the ball too long, i can easily dribble through 3 defenders but once i get past one i am hooked and want to meg the next one, or do some sweet stepovers and finally one will grab it from me. I am working on it, but it is hard to get past that mental part of my game that i have been so used to for years now.

I also have a problem with pinging the ball with my left. My crosses, shots, and one touch passes are all spot on with my left, but i can't seem to ping the ball across the feild with my left, its just soo awkward. I'm working on that.

Anyone from New Hampshire, playing in Super Y or know when a teams tryouts are for Super Y...cuz i am sick of playing for my team that its only good for endurance, not skill. I am 17.

Oh a good tip for endurance...Run on a paved road with some real comfortable flats. Start at a telephone pole, jog at a medium pace to the next one, at the next one sprint from that one to the next, then from that one to the next one jog at a fast jog to the next one, then from that sprint to the next one, then jog at a slow pace, sprint, medium pace, sprint, fast pace jog, sprint. do this for 10 minutes every 3 days, and ur stamina during a game will significantly increase.

Great short distance bursts of speed, find a good hill, tie a tire with some rope about 10 feet behind you and run up the hill at a 100%...this is what the professional running backs do to train in the NFL, and those guys are hard core, and not to mention fast. tHis will really help for those half the length of the feild runs, down into the corner to play a beautiful cross into a outsprung ruud van nistelrooy, much like Cristiano Ronaldo would do.

MANCHESTER UNITED vs. MILLWALL- millwall stands noo chance against that Red Devils

If you get mad at a player, the best way to get him back is to score in his face or embarass him in some other way. If there is not enough time left in the game, thats when you punch his lights out when the refs not watching.

as a keeper- getting down and low to the corners quickly

also, I let in 2 chips last year, which made me really angry as I am 6 foot 5.

when I play out, I am just too slow to keep up with my mark

Sprint speed. I can run forever, but over less than 40 yards I have about the same speed as an average U-14 player (and I've been playing college soccer.) Good touch, probably the best or second-best long-range shot on the team... and by far the slowest in a sprint.

For a long time I tried to improve that by doing a lot of sprints... in the last year or so I gave up and started trying to make my strengths (first touch, one-touch passing, and shooting) stand out even more than before.

can you post some more endurance drills like that run around the firld one and the telephone pole one? those seem to be money!!
