Remember that "The Caribou of Colorado" (and that was their official name) were aiming to have a brown leather look like a mountain man or early trapper, leather fringe and all.

LEATHER FRINGE!

How can merely bad color combinations designs compete with that kind of "creativity"?

I voted for Vfl Bochum's half-white, half-rainbow shirt.

I am the proud owner of said jersey.........I only wear it when I plan to get extemely drunk.

That's cool and all that, but I cannot believe it hasn't gotten one vote. I like Germany's green-and-white strip (think 2000 Euro), but the green, black, red, and yellow is a little hard on the eyes. Then again, so are claret and blue, but it is a revered combination of colors.

He's right. It's the LEATHER FRINGE! that puts the Caribou over the top.

I saw one at the US Soccer Hall of Fame this summer in Oneonta... it's even more brutal now, as the leather is drying and shriveling a bit. Far and away the ugliest. You have to see it live to appreciate it.

Not to dispute that that shirt was a piece of crap, but that was LA's home shirt from '96.

And, call it a hunch, but I'd bet money that that is a picture is of Cobi celebrating LA's very first goal in the Galaxy's very first match against the Metros.

Since I'm not old enough to have experienced NASL, can someone tell me if the HoF is being sarcastic or serious about "unforeseeable turn of events"? If I understand correctly, misguided expansion combined with the dearth of quality American players (and perhaps the ugly uniforms) led to the league's demise.

That pretty much covers it: misguided expansion (most misguided of all was the use of expansion fees as a source of income) and a lack of good Americans (or a lack of sufficently charismatic-yet-third-rate foreign players). It was unforeseen in the same way that you never foresee reality biting you in the ass when you've stuck your head in the sand.

Any soccer uniform with a fringe has to be ridiculed endlessly. What were these guys thinking? Mountain men don't have time for sports, anyway. They are way too busy surviving.

Any of the uniforms from the MLS first season wins, hands down, of course, special mention to the Caribous.
