I think Man Utd's problem is that they're looking at the state of the general market, and saying "well, nobody's paying much these days."

What they don't seem to understand is that the top of the market has become totally distinct from even the upper-middle market. Most of football has gone broke. But Real Madrid, Chelsea, Man Utd, Liverpool, and a few other teams are still willing and able to pay high premiums. That means they're paying a whole lot for just a little extra talent.

Tough. I just can't understand why all the business geniuses at Man Utd can't understand it.

Wow, if there's one deal NOT to mess up, it'll be this one. Van Der Vaart will be a brilliant signing for us. Brilliant! He'll fill that 'hole' role behind the striker(s) perfectly. Actually, my favourite conspiracy theory is that Man U deliberately *#$@#@ up the Robben deal so Chelsea would buy him. As Chelsea have Duff & Robben then they are less likely to rain on our RVdV parade. There can be no other explanation - the board can't be that stoopid right?

Still think Barca are favourites owing to his mums family connection.

Would be perfect for united, him or joaquin would be brilliant. But the defence is still the big factor, we havent replaced Ronny Johnson and Laurent Blanc since they departed and with David May also gone, we need an experienced player in the back.
