In Washington, D.C., United officials are hoping to have a place of their own by 2007. Team president Kevin Payne said discussions with the city have focused on two locations for a 25,000-seat stadium: next to RFK Stadium and along the Anacostia River as part of Mayor Anthony Williams's ambitious waterfront initiative.

Overall, a great effort from Steve and the Post to kick off the regular season.

Ah now we see the motivation.

"It's critically important for the league [to build new stadiums] because we need to be in the right size venues," Payne said. "We can't continue to play in these giant stadiums. When there is a scarcity for tickets, they become a much more valuable commodity. People buy in advance, you can charge higher prices, you're much less susceptible to weather issues, but also once you're in the building, the atmosphere is going to be what we all know can be perfect for soccer in this country."

I wonder if the LA and Columbus fans can enlighten us about any changes in ticket prices in their new stadiums.

The LA fans sure can, they got gouged. At least in the nicer seats.

Thanx for the links.

We've all been spoiled by cheap tix and unlimited availability, but while it's great for the fan, it's not so hot for MLS.

Paying higher prices to sit in a new SSS and watch (hopefully) better quality teams is a good deal. And if you want cheap seats and a half-empty stadium, there will unfortunately always be the Bullets and Caps.......

Now if the beer prices go up, that's a different story. :)
