When I asked about the job description, D.C. United told me it would be overseeing youth development of our Super-Y league teams, selecting the coaches for these teams, and helping out with clinics and camps. I said, 'That's great, and all, but will I be able to get with the kids one-one?' When they said, absolutely, that's why I said I'd want to do it, because I'm home during the week.

My sister is on the U-19 team and said Harkes is pretty cool. She said it was surreal standing in a huddle with John Harkes when he was one of her soccer heros back in the day.

It looks like Steve Sampson might have been a producer for "Game of Their Lives":
Harkes: Ed McIlvenny. He was a Scotsman -- the one who came over and played in Philadelphia for three years for Walter Bahr, and then got brought onto the U.S. National Team.
They tell me he was the best player that they had out there. After the World Cup, he actually went and played for Manchester United. And on the day of the (England) game, he wore the captain's armband. But they didn't give it to me in the movie.
