Who will the Potros meet in Abu Dhabi for the quarterfinal?

It's come down to eight teams in CAF...

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v706/SwissGCZ/liguedc.jpg

Group A
Al Merreikh (Sudan)
Zesco United (Zambia)
Kano Pillars (Nigeria)
Al Hilal (Sudan)

Group B
TP Mazembe Englebert (D.R. Congo)
Monomotapa United (Zimbabwe)
Heartland FC (Nigeria)
Etoile Sahel (Tunisia)

The shocker is Al Ahly not making the final eight.
Etoile Sahel who beat Pachuca at the 2007 CWC is still in the mix.

wow, how did ahly manage to not make the final eight after dominating the continent for so long?

i hope atlante does well. they looked pretty good in the CCC but were awful in the league

Nigeria's Kano Pillars beat them on away goals. The CAF group phase has many surprise teams and (at least at first glance) seems weaker than in years past. Etoile Sahel looks like the favorite, but maybe Sudan's Al Hilal (2007 semifinalist) or the Nigerian teams can prove to be a stumbling block.

PS: The group phase is over in September. The semis start in October.

I'm gonna be following the CAF CL this year. Let's not forget Pachuca's tough loss to Star of Sahel in 2007. Then their thrilling win over Al-Ahly in 2008. There's a Mexico-Africa rivalry now, thanks to the CWC.

I'm not expecting much from this team. Let's face it they have a very limited roster and some guys, like Gabriel Pereyra might be leaving.

Competition field to date:

UEFA: FC Barcelona (Spain)
CONCACAF: Atlante FC (Mexico)
OFC: Auckland City (New Zealand)
Host: Al Ahli (UAE)

TBD: CONMEBOL, AFC, CAF

Al Ahli vs. Auckland City is the first confirmed match-up.

Don't confuse Ahli Dubai with Ahly Cairo. Al Ahli (or Ahly) literally translated means "Nacional" and there are at least ten of them in the Arab world.

Don't forget the 2006 match between Club America and Ahly Cairo (Ahly won 2:1)

Man, I hope they keep him. I'll be rooting for Atlante 100% at the CWC. They're a team of character

@Swiss. Oh yeah. That was after America got trounced by Barcelona. Interesting how America was able to tie Barca in the August 2006 Friendly match, 4-4. But when it counted, reality sure set in as Barca smashed Cuau's Club America. Examples like these show just how meaningless friendlies are. Yet, every summer, fans still go mad for them.

Yeah but that was a crappy america that wen't that year. In 2000 CWC Necaxa tied Man U 1-1 and beat Real Madrid 1-1 in pks for third place.

Looks like FIFA decided to get rid off the pre-determined CAF vs. CONCACAF quarterfinal pairing. At least this document (http://www.fifa.com/mm/document/tournament/ticketing/01/09/66/94/fixturesticketprices_09042009.pdf) mentions a draw in November. See the full tournament bracket here (http://www.fifa.com/mm/document/tournament/competition/01/04/90/20/fcwc09_matchschedule_270809.pdf).

Should Atlante still draw CAF, a match-up with Etoile Sahel is looking more and more unlikely (http://www.goalzz.com/main.aspx?c=4144&stage=4). Both Nigerian sides are looking strong while Etoile Sahel is barely in it at this point. Could the North-African streak come to an end this year?

It says that Atlante will play the winner of Aukland City vs. Al-Ahli Dubai on December 12.

If Atlante wins that match, then they face Barcelona. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2009_FIFA_Club_World_Cup

It's gonna be good. Go Colts

That's incorrect. As mentioned previously, there is a draw in November.

PS: in Africa it's down to four teams.

Heartland FC (Nigeria) vs. Kano Pillars (Nigeria)
Al Hilal (Sudan) vs. TP Mazembe Englebert (D.R. Congo)

Well, that's what it says in Wikipedia. Why would some guy set up those brackets out of his ass?

If you're positive he's wrong, then go edit it.

Read the official FIFA documents I linked to earlier. It clearly mentions a draw in November.

I wish the one who's representing CONCACAF is either Toluca or Cruz Azul...They are pretty impressive as of right now. I just hope Atlante can surprise us all with a good showing in CWC.

So wikipedia was right this whole time about Atlante being in the Euro bracket. They must have had inside info. I'm glad I trusted them.
