Some bad news on Ruud, apparently he has a knee injury that may stop him playing for Holland, Man U (against Arsenal), or the rest of the season depending upon how pessimistic you feel.

Also, Saha has been saying some negative things in comparing Ruud to Henry (if you believe the press).

Hopefully just a minor knock and hopefully Saha has been quoted slightly out of context as usual.

"if you believe the press" = not
....
"Ruud is strong, and uses his body well to shield the ball but unlike Thierry he can't run 100 metres in eight seconds." -Saha
....
Henry on his way to Athens 2k4???

The only way he could manage 8 seconds was if he was chasing Lauren to have a moan ;)

Soccernet.com is saying that RVN will be fine to play for Holland and for United on Saturday.

But how fast can a world class sprinter cover 100 meters if they have a running start? I would think that coulc be close to 8 seconds.
Not to say Henry could do it, but is it possible?

When I read the Sun story last night I just assumed it was a Fergie plant to make sure that Ruud sees limited or no action for Holland.

Even a world-class sprinter would have a damn hard time getting 8 seconds from a running start. The world record (from a stop) is 9.78 secs.
Either Saha is dumb or was misquoted. I'm leaning towards the latter.

'Ruud doesn't take much of a part in the team's collective play. His game is all about finishing.'
You know, I'll actually agree that Henry is a better all-round player than RVN... but Saha doesn't know much about the team. RVN's ability to hold up the ball has often been instrumental in team play this season.
Probably just whiny because RVN doesn't often pass balls in the box.

World Class Sprinters might be able do it... Michael Johnson ran the 200 in what at that time was equivalent to better than the 100m recordX2 and you dont really sprint flat out in a 200... that illustrates the benefit of a running start despite the fact that the distance required a slower pace... so I would say that it is possible.. the top speeds those guys get to is around 27miles per hour higher i believe so that if given enough time to get to say 20 and then go at a flat out run from there it might be possible, who knows...

Was hoping to see that Ruud was in the team to play France as this would debunk the injury story. Just checked and he is not in the starting 11 or on the bench. So I guess we won't know for sure until the weekend.
Incidently, Henry is on the bench for France.
