Martin Laursen has been forced to retire due to his latest knee injury. Poor guy and a huge blow for Villa.

Did he spout off again?

Why give him money anyway, he doesn't know what to do with it.

"When you talk about Manchester United you are talking about a top side spending big, big money on every single player. Every season.

"For me that is the main difference between the teams. You have seen that with regard to Chelsea before, spending big money. The advantage United have is that they have a big squad. In the last years they have spent money to improve that squad even more.

"They have spent big on top-class players, so they can make mistakes and they can change players. When we won there, they had Ryan Giggs, Paul Scholes and Dimitar Berbatov on the bench.

"We cannot do something like that. We spend too much time worrying about whether Steven Gerrard and Fernando Torres can play, while they can play Ronaldo, Carlos Tevez, [Dimitar] Berbatov or Wayne Rooney, it doesn't matter to them."

Reading release four, including Hahnemann
Reading have begun life without Steve Coppell by releasing four major players from his reign.

Michael Duberry, Marcus Hahnemann, Graeme Murty and Leroy Lita have all been been told their contracts will not be renewed after talks with director of football Nick Hammond.

Alan Bennett, Gary Frewen, Scott Golbourne, Tom Hateley and Daniel Spence have also been shown the door but Brynjar Gunnarsson has been offered a new one-year contract while youth players Oliver Bozanic, Scott Davies and Ben Hamer have also been offered new deals.

Hammond said: ''The players who are leaving will all be sorely missed, but this week has seen the end of an era and it's time for the club to move on."

He was also whining about the fixture lists...

Rafa Benitez believes games involving teams that are challenging for the title and fighting against relegation should be played at the same time.

The Liverpool boss added that this would eradicate any unfair advantage gained from playing before of after your rivals.

I'm not even sure I understand that last point. The final day of fixtures all start at the same time to prevent any sort of monkey business - what more does he want?

Christ, he really is grasping for straws. I can understand why the Scousers take to him so much - he's just as paranoid as they are.

Of the last 5 games we have played after them on 4 occassions I believe. WTF does he think it is. The teams play dead so they put pressure on us to win our games. We win and he still is with this BS??
