I am going to train stamina first, and thanks for the heads up on the other players (stamina-wise).
One of the things people said not to do is hit the transfer market...well I HIT THE TRANSFER MARKET! :D Anyway, I'm pretty happy with what I've got after my first day. Here's a summary:
Like I said, I'm training playmaking in a 3-5-2...which should give me the opportunity to train 10 players per week. I signed those 10 players today for a total of $93,500. They are 6 passable playmakers and 4 passable wingers. 8 of the players are 17, and I bought a 19 and 18 year old. Here they are-
Date Type Players To/From Price TSI then
8/18/2004 Bought Fortunato Potiguar from Copacabana Cuca 10 000 US$ 250
8/18/2004 Bought José Ángel Ferrer from Pocitos FC 3 000 US$ 230
8/18/2004 Bought Agnis Vaļenieks from FK Mayertown 24 000 US$ 730
8/18/2004 Bought Chester Boyle from Montreal Mythol 10 000 US$ 120
8/18/2004 Bought Beniamino Di Fazio from Der Lawtons Alk 4 000 US$ 360
8/18/2004 Bought Paul-Émile Massicotte from Winnieton Unite 11 000 US$ 410
8/18/2004 Bought Sidney Fleming from Iowa Enforcers 2 500 US$ 330
8/18/2004 Bought Brian Cody from Jaguars FC 1 000 US$ 230
8/18/2004 Bought Don Stubbs from Christos 14 000 US$ 340
8/18/2004 Bought Paul Schrader from New York Cows 14 000 US$ 300
I also committed to 20K a month for my youth squad, got a passable level coach, promoted a crap keeper, signed 9 assistant coaches, signed 2 spokespersons, a sports pychologist, and a physiotherapist. I scheduled a friendly, fired 3 players, my head coach, and was outbid about 100 times for players.
After all this (I think I'm done for the week), I have 103,900 left. How quickly is that going to dissappear? Any comments on my progress so far? I signed several foreigners...does that hurt? My players are ready to train, should I really start with stamina, or make that up later?
THANKS and don't hold back!!!!
looks like a good start. how much money you got now?

Foreigners don't hurt at all, they just cost a little more each week in wages. They get a salary bonus of 20%.

The only thing I think might be important is the PM skill of the four wingers you bought. If they are under inadequate, it will not be cost efficient to be training, especially at half speed. Other than that, well done.
How long the rest of your nest egg will last depends entirely on your team does in its first few games. Your 7K stadium will not really be able to sustain you long term financially. I would hold off on expansion though until you see how attendance goes for you.

I didn't really expect you to follow the no transfer advice Stogey--it's mostly there to make sure that newbies don't get ripped off. But it looks like you made some good initial trainee picks. Like Helghallen said, the PM skill is what is crucial for your wing trainees. If they have lower than inad, can them. Good luck with the stamina training, and let us know if you have more questions.
RE money: remember that hattrick is a two week economy. At the start, your goal should be to break even every two weeks (i.e. afterone home game and one away game). If that isn't happening, maybe cut down on the staff or sell one of your good players for some cash relief. You can also use some creative deficit spending. You can still make transfers up to a -$200,000 balance, but if you go past -$500,000 you have 5 logins to resolve your finiancial problems. For my first full season, I hovered around -$100,000. This cost me some money in interest, but allowed me to improve my squad before I was ready to sell trainees.

I'm always hovering right around -100,000... The good news is that I now net 30k every 2 week. =)

I have about $103,000 left, and I just got an inadequate keeper for $1,000.
So my wingers need good playmaking huh? I somehow thought that their winger rating was the most important, and that it would improve through Playmaking training. Now I'm saying DUH, there is only one skill that improves through PM, PLAYMAKING!
My four passable wingers have 2 weaks, a poor, and disastrous as their PM skill. Should I really just can them now and look for wingers with high playmaking? Or does playing my wingers "towards the middle" negate the whole Winger skill aspect?
Also, how far into debt can you still pay your youth team allowance

Thanks!
Playing wingers toward middle reduces the importance of winger skill, but doesn't eliminate it. The high winger skill will increase your attack rating. PM skill is a pretty big thing for wingers to have. Wingers, as a whole have to have the most secondary skills to be really effective.
You might consider keeping the two weaks and dumping the other two and finding two with inad or higher PM to replace them. Or you could replace all four.

I have a friendly in two hours. I pretty much have two seperate teams, one for friendlies and one for real games. I have 5 different playmaker trainees starting in each match, 2 wings and 3 IMs.
This is how I want to start my playmaker machine right? (although I am training stamina to start).

right. now remember that stamina training will train all your players regardless if they played that week but itll always lower your form, the form is temporary though.
maybe we should have stogey replace the ballaz in the BS cup? he seems pretty active and it would get him friendlies

That though would be unfair to Ballaz, even though he hasn't been playing with a second team, we can't really kick a team out, although he could take Brown's place for the final league game next week against Heavy Water FC. Also with the way the group is set up, this is Ballaz last game this week in the tournament. Chris, ur_land, what do you think of Stogey replacing Brown United for the final group game next week, that is if Stogey wants to take the place of the team and have at least one friendly set up.

I wouldn't mind not having to worry about a friendly for one week, and whoever played me would be grateful for the automatic win. :D

They are more than welcome to play each other. But if the score counted in the standings. Who ever got to play him would have an extra points that the rest of the group wouldn't get.

We really should rename this thread to "Advice for Matt". :D
I've got a decision to make here. I, like everyone else, have six games left. Out of those six, I have 3 definate losses. I have one away game that will be close and two home games I should win. These result seem to be set in stone, based on my team's newness, and the fact that I only have 2 home games left.
Here's the rub: I've always planned to do stamina training, and then do playmaking once almost all of my players were at excellent stamina. I'm beginning to think that whether I raise to excellent stamina or not, my last 6 games are pretty close to already "in the books". So, should I just drop the stamina and get started on my playmaking...maybe helping my boys pop nice and early next season? Can't I just wait for the offseason to get my stamina up?
I've already played a friendly, with stamina training. If you do agree, and think "go for PM", then should I start right away for this weekend's game or finish up with stamina and then move to PM next week?
Thanks in advance, as always!

well here's the thing- as you know when players get older it takes longer to train them at certain positions. you said you bought a lot of 17 and 18 YOs. this is the age they will be trained the quickest. stamina will be the same for every age and be roughly 1 level per week. so if you wanna do maybe 1 or 2 weeks of stamina or every other week with some PM in there, i think that would be more benefitial (sp?). also, 6 weeks of stamina will put your form in the gutter.

If the results are pretty much decided, then get started on the PM training and save the stamina training for the off season. In fact, I would switch the training to PM right now, before the update tonight.

Done. So my PM training will train my 3 inner midfielders from each game (6 of em) and halfway train my 2 wingers from each game (4 of em). Right?
Thanks for the advice guys!

Nah, I'm just using my BigSoccer resources wisely. :D
Another training question, would having my wingers play "towards middle" affect training at all? I was thinking about it, because my center attack rating sucks.

No it wont. Wingers get 50% playmaking training regardless of their orientation.

Thanks. So I've switched my training to PM, but it was set at Stamina before my friendly. Will my 10 midfielders (split across both games) all get PM training or will the friendly guys get Stamina and this weekend's guys get PM?
I'm kinda confused by the "updates", when they are scheduled and what exactly they update.
