Ok, so this is clearly a strategy game of some sort, have not come across it before.. where can I get this game?
Its strategy, simulation, ownership of a soccer team, entertainment. And so much more.
Still not sold? It's free. Click here. (http://www.hattrick.org)
And best of all, if you have any questions, you can ask them here. If you join up, enjoy.

[QUOTE=mtkillamanjohno]This sounds really interesting... the hard part is the 4 day wait...
but let me get this straight... can I apply to purchase a player from another human team? [QUOTE]
Yes you can, you can go to the transfer list and search for the kind of player you want skill wise, and see what other players are selling.

but let me get this straight... can I apply to purchase a player from another human team? That would be cool... I guess this could be kinda compared to a CM game played only online? It seems that this has way more emphasis on ownership and stuff... well I will be a newbie and I guess by the 17th I will officially join... I am first on the waiting list but it says u have to wait at least 4 days, which is unfortunate because that will mean I will be starting just before finals..
it doesnt have to take up too much time.
as long as you schedule yourself.

Ok.. thats a relief... just wondering though... is buying older players when you just start (because I assume they will be cheaper like in real life) a good strategy or should I go for younger guys who might cost more and have room 4 improvement?

One of the things you'll need to do is decide on a training regimen. Right off the bat, you'll need to train a couple of weeks of stamina, but after that you need to set some long term training. GK, Scoring, Playmaking, Defending, Winger
Whatever you train will need young players as you can train them longer and quicker. We're talking 17, 18 year old passables/solids
Your other positions, I'd buy older - 19-27. You're not training them. You just need them to adequately hold down the other positions.
I bought some over 30 guys cheaply because they had good experience. Good experience will boost performance. Not everyplayer has good experience. So, if you buy older players, make sure that they have at least inadequate experience. Otherwise, you're better off buying the 'middle aged' players.

I'm a bit confused... so I can only train a few players at a time and not the whole squad? This is implied in you rmessage... Thanks

Training works like this: You select the type of training you want to do. Scoring, playmaking (midfielders), cross-passes (wingers), defending. There are others, but these are the primary ones. Which ever one you choose determines who gets trained.
Scoring trains forwards. Playmaking trains midfielders and to a lesser extent wingers. Cross passing trains wingers and to a lesser extent wingbacks. Defending trains all back line players.
So, yes, you only train a small part of your team at a time.
You might check out the training section of the rules as well it gives a great overview of who is trained by what. Also, check out the platypus guide at www.hottrick.org.

Ok, I read the rules, but I assumed that I could train... wingers as wingers and strikers as strikers, and midfielders as midfielders but I guess you have to chose one of them...

Yeah, initially I thought that was a little odd too. But it's important to remember, this is not exactly like real soccer. It's a reasonable approximation. One of the nice things is, if everybody is training 1 thing, and you train something else, theoretically your trainees will sell for a nice premium since there are so few of what you are training. If there is a demand for them anyway.
Due to this forced specialization, you are training your future 'wingers' and at the sametime, wingers that other teams will want to buy from you since they are training scoring or something.

Yeah, in this game you are only allowed to train the one skill. It means that you have to prioritize improtance to your team. Also if you were actually allowed to train everything at once, you'd have tons of teams that would be super teams.
This means that you can train one thing (ie playmaking) for a few seasons, but as you get to the end of a season, you can possibly sell one of your trainees off to make some money, and start training another. This allows you to keep making money and being able to train one thing for a longer period of time.

It also pretty much requires you to use the Transfer List to improve your team.

You have immediate needs and your initial cash supply is more limited than it loooks.
However, once you've gotten the important things (coach, trainees, maybe stadium) out of the way, you'll probably want to buy some players to shore up weak points in your squad, and at that point old players have some attractions: they tend to be cheaper for the same amount of skill, and they tend to have more experience resulting in better performance. This is balanced by lengthier recovery times if they get injured and the risk that they will lose skills (e.g. I had a 33-yo winger drop from passable to inadequate wing skills, although I still use him because of form and experience).
See my big post on the first page for my advice to someone who's just starting out (noting that I advise starting out with inadequates there, but passables are likely to be better).

Ok, I like the idea... its not so much training a skill but kinda like a mentality like how, Brazillian teams always have great dribblers and playmakers and Italian teams have 10 defenders and a keeper... ok... so when you train wingers... all your players will increase (naturally wingers will get better quicker) their ability to play on the flank, however they wont get worse in other areas right? I'm hoping so, cuz in CM03/04 if u train someone shooting all the time their passing, heading and other attributes drop... help?

Training does not make players at other positions lose skill.
However, everyone does not get better (at least, not so you'd generally notice). There are "full training" positions for all types of skill training and "half training" positions for playmaking and winger. A player's training is determined by where he played most recently (within the past week) -- e.g. if you play a guy at IM in the league match and winger in the friendly, he'd get 1/2 PM training or full winger training.

there is only one thing u can train that will make an attribute of a player drop and that is stamina. if u train stamina, the player's form will go down

No, if you train winger, the only players that get training are your wingers, they get full training, and your wingbacks get 50% training. Scoring trains your forwards. Playmaking trains your inner mids full, and your wingers 50%. Defending trains the defenders, and goalie's through goalkeeping.
The only things that train everyone, are shooting, stamina, passing, and general. Those though are not the best of those to train. Shooting does not train your forwards enough. Stamina is good to train in the offseason, because all your players get training, and form while it can be hurt, is not as bad during the offseason. Passing is not a skill you want to train for a long time, instead train it maybe for a season or two, especially if you train playmaking as well. General is probably the less effecient way to train.

What is best needed in a coach... i may have made a hash of things... this is who i selected at coach
Paul Angelescu
0 US$, 50 years, disastrous form
Has brilliant experience and inadequate leadership abilities
Sympathetic, Fiery, Dishonest

For a new player, what is best needed in a coach is coaching skill. If you got a coach with inadequate leadership, I'd guess you either didn't get a good enough coach (you shouldn't have gotten anything less than passable) or you spent too much money (passable/poor at $80k is the best fit for a new club's budget).
I would strongly recommend going back and reading over my list of recommendations for new players on the first page of this thread. The only revision I would make to it (after the discussion with junjunforever) is to revise the target training skill up to passable.

Oh well... i guess I will probably stick with this guy till the end of the season and then perhaps switch... I have already made a terrible purchase - i thought I was getting a great guy for 9000 but it was 90,000 and he is good, but 27.. I am so mad... so i dont have much dinero left - needless to say i will be taking it easy..
