I noticed that SportsNite on Comcast DC has covered DC United news a few times during the offseason. Just wondering if they cover the team pretty well during the season (post game interviews, practice interviews, etc.) or is what I've seen recently just the preseason Freddy effect? Is it worth me setting up to record everyday?
Thanks...

Speaking of TiVO:
Why do you need a phone line and a monthly fee? Isn't it enough to press "record" on the damned thing?

You can use your tivo without activiating it, connecting it via a phone line and paying the monthly fee. In that case, its nothing more than a digitial vcr that you manually program to record programs.
Now, to really make the most of your TiVO it needs to be connected to a phone line so that it can download up-to-date programming listings nightly. The monthly fee ( ~$12), or lifetime subscription (!$300), pays for that service.
Once you have all that programming data in your TiVo it becomes a pretty smart, and much more useful, box - particularly through its Season Pass, Wishlist, and Auto-record options. Here are some examples from how I have my TiVo setup at home:
- I have a wishlist that looks for all programs in the category Soprts: Soccer. Every few days I look at that list and see if their are any games I really want it to get.
- I have a Season Pass to all MLS games. Tivo will record any MLS game no matter what channel its on (ESPN/ESP2/FSW/ABC) and no matter what time. I don't have to program it in from week to week (although I'm paranoid and do check that it's going to get it.
- Similar to the above, I have a Season Pass to local broadcasts of DC United games.
So, to answer your question you don't NEED a phone line & fee for TiVO but you're missing out on a lot of the features it offers.

Then, why does it say, "Phone line and monthly fee REQUIRED" in advertising? I say that's deceptive.

TiVo is their service that makes the scheduling options work. To get TiVo, you do need those things. To operate a PVR that is sold by TiVo, you don't.
To return this thread to its original intention, I think it could be worth it. You set it up to only keep one at a time, you scan through it until you might see DCU news, then delete when done.

Then, why does it say, "Phone line and monthly fee REQUIRED" in advertising? I say that's deceptive.Um, deceptive and advertising mean the same thing :). Technically, to use TiVo, it does require a phone line and registration. To use your DVR, it does not. TiVo is a service, not hardware - and it surely is not a verb :)

So actually "TiVoing" a program would be incorrect grammar? :D

Uh....not sure if I got my point across....forget about TiVo....let me rephrase the question:
Does SportsNite have decent DC United coverage during the season? Yes/No? If so, can someone please elaborate?
