A court heard that Daniel Brown, a friend of Aston Villa fan Priest, hurled a pint of lager at Mockble's car in an "unprovoked attack," injuring one of the passengers, the Press Association reported.
The assault was motivated by the misplaced belief that Mockble and his passengers were Birmingham supporters.
Prosecutor Christopher Hotten said the incident had been witnessed by three police officers and within seconds Brown had been arrested.
However Mockble performed a rapid U-turn and drove "significantly in excess of the 30mph speed limit" at Priest and his friends on the wrong side of the road, without attempting to swerve or brake, Hotten told the jury.
The impact of the crash fractured Priest's pelvis and ribs and tore a major artery, causing him to die swiftly in the road.
Very sad.
If Mr. Priest was a friend of anyone on this forum, my prayers to you. :(
