The Bolivia-El Salvador game will take place three days before Iran is scheduled to face Guatemala at RFK, but the Iranians apparently are having problems acquiring entry visas. Local officials, however, are confident the game will be held. Iran is also planning to play the Los Angeles Galaxy on April 28 at the Rose Bowl.

Hmmm... a bit of a changing story on the visas for the Iranians.Members of Iran's national team didn't apply in time to receive visas for a game against Guatemala in the United States, an official said Wednesday.

Rafael Salguero, interim president of Guatemala's National Soccer Federation, said the team missed a deadline and couldn't travel to the United States for the May 1 game in Washington.

On Tuesday, Jorge Roldan, director of the Guatemala selectors, accused the U.S. government of denying visas to the Iranians.

Kelly Shannon, a spokeswoman for the State Department's Bureau of Consular Affairs, said Wednesday that the Iranian team never applied for the visas, but she wasn't sure why. She said the U.S. government had agreed to help expedite their requests.

When asked why the Iranians didn't apply, Roldan said they missed the deadline.
