Reuters today:
Trapattoni says he is ready to sign new Italy deal

MILAN, March 29 (Reuters) - Italy coach Giovanni Trapattoni says he is ready to renew his contract with the Italian Football Federation if offered a deal.

Trapattoni's contract runs out after June's European championship.

Asked about his future at a news conference on Monday, Trapattoni said: "One thing at a time but in any case it doesn't depend on me. If it did depend on me I would sign today".

Trapattoni had previously said he would be happy to stay on in an unspecified role with the Federation.

Media speculation has suggested that Juventus coach Marcello Lippi could be in line to take over from Trapattoni after the European championship in Portugal.

Trapattoni, the most successful Italian club coach of the modern era, took over from Dino Zoff as national team coach after Italy's defeat by France in the finals of Euro 2000.

For what it's worth, i think Mourinho is the next Spurs manager. Porto have recognised what he has done and have said they would not protest if he wanted to leave at the end of the season.

Mourinho is the man I'd want, but I have a feeling it could well end up being Hector Cuper. I heard a while ago he'd claimed he'd been in talks with the club several times and was keen, but wanted to have the rest of this season off after leaving Inter. Does seem strange that Cuper hasn't take another job or even been linked to one, he didn't do *that* badly at Inter.

I imagine Trapp is the one they wanted, with a younger number 2, can't have that much smoke without fire. It's all a bit of a mess really, just hope for Levy's sake he makes the right choice, I'm still p*ssed off that they wrote this season off after just 6 games, they better have a top manager to show for it.

Looks like Pleat could well be the sacrificial lamb to leave the club at the end of this season when the new boss takes over. He was very downbeat about his future, wouldn't confirm if he was still going to be here next season.

Re: Pleat leaving.

Err.. good?

Less interference on the managerial front. Manager can speak to the board by himself now without having his hand held.

If they decide to have a manager, rather than a coach, then Pleat is definitely gone. As it is I think after being caretaker manager and p*ssing off so many fans, he's on his last legs anyway.

Bye bye Pleaty bye bye.

I think if he does sign, the next Spurs kit I would get would have Mourinho on the back of it. Or Jumhed. Or Sendorange. Or whatever.

Seriously though, Mourinho is the one I want. Just imagine how pissed he would get Sir Alex. Maybe he could bring Deco with him.

I would pay serious cash to go to see Man U vs Spurs next season if Mourinho is the manager, excellent fayre.

Diego has said he expects to join Spurs for £11m (although it will actually be 8) and he'll be playing for a Portuguese manager - one of the key factors.
