Our defense get's tested and comes thru in the end. Either Nelson, Stokes of Petke head one in off a corner kick.

United 1- Smurfs 0

D.C. (3)...S.J. (2)

With D.C going ahead in first half by 1...then pulling back to score 2 goals.

i'm not convinced at this point we will score more than 1 or 2 goals a game (though who knows, i still think we have several guys who could potentially score 8-10 goals this year) but if our possession and holding in preseason means anything, we ought to have a lot of the ball and make it tough on our opponents to score (funny thing about football, it is hard to score if you don't have the ball--unless you have goose knocking in own goals).

it is still troubling no one has really grabbed the forward spot yet.

i just don't know what to think about the crew match, we obviously dominated the game possession wise and created beaucoup chances. it sounds like busch was standing on his head and made it pretty tough to score.

but i am gonna say the hype of the crowd and home field combined with any lingering "illness" of donovan will give us a 1-0 win. it will be ugly and sorum will spend all next week whinning about our strikers but we will score on a earnie-dema combo...

Tight I think, VERY tight. If there's a 'flair' team in MLS it's probably San Jose, so I think, if possible, the game should be tightly marked to snuff out the attacking mids. Maybe even let Donovan have a few Scottish-style 'strong challenges'! That and hostile crowd can really rattle teams. Maybe then (given no proven striker) DC can counter at speed via Convey and Dema, hoping for breakaway goals. Yes, I know it sounds boring and might alienate new fans, but to play an open end-end game and still get trounced in our opener is worse.

If Landon still has the craps then we win 2-0. If he is healthy then he gets one and we still win.

Oh yeah, prediction: 2-0 to DC. Adu does not score but sets up Eskandarian for number 2.

C'mon, it's the first game of the season. We've got Freddy. We've got a new coach. We've got a new (old) GM (General Manager, not GrillMaster). We've got a guy who went to Marine Corps boot camp.

We will win by a score of something like 5:1.

San Jose starts Jon Conway in goal ... LaNorte abuse him so well, they actually make him cry and he lets in 3 goals, one off of a Convey free kick. Landon burns us for the first goal, as he's rested. Gros knocks his ass down at the 30 minute mark and he completely disappears from the game.
We win 3-2, the place goes crazy. Much beer is drunk at the tailgate. Many SEs and Barra are also drunk at the tailgate. Dave Brother passes out.

Mike,

How was the trip to Italy? Whoops, it's regular season now so I better come up with a prediction. DC also has a new and hopefully improved Jaime Moreno and he's the difference maker here scoring the game winner with 5:00 left. DC 2, SJ 1

Wow-we're splitting match threads now? What's the difference between this thread and the "offical" thread? Where am I supposed to post? What's the difference between "banter" and "analysis"? I know-go read the new FAQ sticky where I'm sure it's totally clear. 11 of the 30 threads currently on this board are directly started or split off by DC United moderators. There are 3 pages of FAQ rules to go over. I know we went over this already but now we have these new split thread rules I have to work to figure out. If the "unofficial" threads are where less moderation is-I'm all for it-and less moderation means the title and the basic control as well as the starting of the thread should done by someone who is NOT a DC United moderator.

As for the game, I really am not sure what will happen. I'm just going to go and watch and make conclusions when it's over. We've heard a lot of talk let's see if the team can back it up.

who gives a rat's anus who starts the thread, be happy you can vent on it and make wild predictions.
what's the wildest predicition so far? Does anyone have us winning by more than 70 goals yet?

Obviously the DC mods do or they wouldn't spend time putting up pictures and info in starting the thread

be happy you can vent on it and make wild predictions

Agreed. And I just vented didn't I. If there's humor and less DC United moderation on these threads, it's a good thing in my book.

I already made my prediction though-I said I didn't know what would happen so somebody else will have to come up w/a wild prediction

WHY!!! Why cant DC United score any goals??? i give up on Cerritos. i mean it, he is off my christmas card list, and if i ever start sending those out man, is he gonna be sorry. Our most dagerous threat is a 14 yr old boy. This Saturday i am getting a bottle of cpt. morgans and watching DC and SJ play to a 0-0 draw. I cant help it, i just dont have the vibe. Hope they prove me wrong.
