Argentina manager Diego Maradona told an Argentine radio show that he will call up Pachuca standout Christian "Chaco" Gimenez for the next pair of World Cup qualifiers.
"It's true that I will call up Christian Gimenez for qualifying," Maradona told Buenos Aires radio station Del Plata. "I'm not calling him up because the games are at altitude but because of his performance
in Mexico."
Gimenez has been a star for los Tuzos yet again this season. He was the highest-scoring player on the highest-scoring team in Mexico, as Gimenez's nine goals led Pachuca. Los Tuzos scored an astounding 42 goals this season.
With Pachuca, Gimenez has won league titles, international titles and has been a major part of the club's success.
"There are players who will earn call-ups based on what they show me during league," Maradona said.
Argentina will host Colombia on June 6 and will play Ecuador in Quito four days later.

Congrats to him. In a way I feel that he'll be representing our league when and if he gets to play on the field for Argentina. I always root for players that call this league home.
The Cacho's, Cabanas, Suazo's of the world have my support with their national teams. I especially like Cacho since he seems like an awesome guy on and off the field.

Maradona selects his squad for qualifier. (http://sports.yahoo.com/sow/news?slug=goal_diego_maradona_selects&prov=goal&type=lgns)
After the friendly match victory over Panama earlier in the week, Maradona decided to choose nine home-based players, including Juan Sebastian Veron, Emiliano Papa, Marcos Angeleri, Sebastian Battaglia and Gonzalo Bergessio.
Perhaps the biggest surprise was the inclusion of Pachuca midfielder Christian Gimenez.
:)
I hope he does well.

Honestly,I didn't even think Maradona would take a look at players to call up from our league.
I respect him for that.

i think taking players from other leagues is good and healthy, it shows you dont have to play on the greatest euro team to be called up, because thats some of the reasons players could have the most succsesful career, and barely play a national game

Christian Giménez (http://www.goal.com/en-us/people/argentina/5899/christian-gim%C3%A9nez)
Los Angeles, Calif. -- Perhaps the possibility of playing in Major League Soccer crossed the mind of Christian Giménez when his Mexican club, Pachuca, participated in the inaugural SuperLiga tournament in 2007, winning the title in Carson at the Home Depot Center in a penalty-kick shootout versus the Los Angeles Galaxy.
Or perhaps he considered the option after seeing a former Boca Juniors teammate, Guillermo Barros Schelotto, find great success in the league, winning the Most Valuable Player award, the best regular-season trophy Supporter's Shield, and the MLS Championship.
Giménez was also once a teammate in Mexico of Cuauhtemoc Blanco, when both played for Veracruz.
Blanco has become an icon of the Chicago Fire since joining MLS. He has led the team to the playoffs every season he has been with the club.
For whatever reason, Giménez, though very successful of late with Pachuca, said that he would be willing to try his luck in the United States.
He spoke exclusively to Goal.com after Pachuca won over Atlas in a penalty shootout at the Interliga.
"Sure," Giménez responded to the question of whether he could see himself playing in MLS in the future. "Why not? I like MLS a lot - I watch (http://www.goal.com/en-us/news/1110/major-league-soccer/2009/01/13/1057999/gimenez-would-consider-mls-move#) it a lot. I know that for players like Guillermo and Blanco, things are going very well. I watch the games and I think I'd like to play here. Why not?"
The wily midfielder scored one of Pachuca's three goals against Atlas. The experienced player has also served as a mentor to some of Pachuca's younger players, including American Jose Francisco Torres.
"To me, he's a great soccer player who has great qualities," Torres explained about Giménez. "He is always cheering you on, even if you mess up on something. He's a great soccer player who has great talent. He makes everything happy. I look up to him a lot."
It would make me happy and sad at the same time

Fortunately I don't think Giménez will be moving to MLS in the near future, it would be too much of a step backwards in his career especially now that he has Maradona's attention for the national team. Speaking of which 'Chaco' is rumored to possibly receive playing time in at least one of Argentina's qualifiers vs. Colombia and/or Ecuador.

I personally would not like the move at all.But I just can't help but see a few players leaving because of Meza not renewing a contract with Pachuca.
