Not that unbelievable. Just because Bruno Cheyrou has manifestly failed to find his feet in English football does not mean he is a poor player or does not remain well-regarded in France from his days at Lille.
Plus, this is only a mid-season friendly. Have you seen the England squad?

Cheyrou was on the fringes of the French squad before he kicked a ball for us - obviously the French coach wants to have a look at others coming through.
be interesting to see how he gets on, and what position they play him.

When Cheyrou was in 'Ligue' for Lille, what position did he play? Was it similar to the recessed forward role that Paul Scholes plays for Manchester United?

He played on the left wing, despite Steve Hunter's insistence that he is not a left winger.
