MLS loosens Academy rules (http://blogs.nypost.com/sports/soccer/archives/2009/05/mls_loosens_aca.html)

H/T to Haig (http://www.bigsoccer.com/forum/showpost.php?p=17675675&postcount=1)

Now teams can sign TWO academy players to a Generation Adidas deal instead of just one; and they can ink four academy players per year. And other clubs can no longer raid their prospects,

My only question is when could teams raid other academies?

IIRC if the limit of two professional contracts for academy player had been reached in a given year, then rights to other players in the graduating academy class were given up, and those players could be poached by other teams immediately.

Thanks. I wondered if that was it, but didn't remember that specifically.

Kudos to MLS. But I thought I read on the Internet that they didn't care about youth development and were just stifling teams' efforts. :p
