This is not exactly Whitecaps related but Zidane, Eto'o, Giuly, Costacurta and others are coming to town July 4th to play a "Canadian All-Star Team" in an event billed as "Zidane and Friends".

It will probably be a 7-4 type of dustup. I am on the fence about going. I think I'd rather make the extra effort to go see Sounders vs Barca.

I heard from a very reliable source that only 5,500 tickets have been sold for Vancouver.

That's 5,500... in a 60,000 seat stadium.

What a joke.

Just like this Benfica-86ers game back in 1991 (I think)

glad that the whitecaps are not part of this -- could be quite an embarrassment-- talked to my son who is a whitecap fan and he said that he is hearing nothing about this upcoming match-- bringing in these type of games is not a sure-fire money maker

TO only had just over 10 000 fans to the game-- lots of smart TO fans stayed home

Given that they actually played the game and these players did actually show up, I'd expect that tickets will now be selling in Vancouver.

I now understand that most players did not show up and this whole thing is the scam many expected.

Word of of Montreal is that the "Canadian All Stars" taking the field in the next match on the three city tour is actually the Montreal Police Dept's soccer team.

And in Vancouver, the "Canadian All Stars" will be mostly comprised of players from the Vancouver Metro Soccer League and Fraser Valley Soccer League (like the Toronto match, this is another case where they've thrown teams together from the local Div 3 & 4 regional leagues. Biggest claim to fame will be the three or four ex-Whitecaps who have been cut from the squad in recent years.

That said, nobody bought tickets to see the Canadian side.... they paid to see Zidane with:

Eto'o
Gattuso
Baresi
Prso
Giuly
Costacurta....

None of whom showed up in Toronto.

SCAM.

it looks like ZZ is 'injured' and the soccer scam might not go ahead in vancouver-- we should head butt him out of the country for trying to scam the beautiful game-- not sure of the real purpose of this ridiculous venture-- if he wants to help charities, then i am quite sure he has lots of millions floating around-- soccer treated him welll.. and he should do the same in return :p

It's now being reported the game has been moved to a different date and relocated to Swangard. Bush league.

...and without the east side bleachers which the Whitecaps own, the capacity for this event will be around 4,800.

thankfully this event has folded quicker than an accordian... and may it go away forever
note the difference when steve nash brings his world class charity fundraiser through-- it will be done first class... just like steve!
