Klein Replaces Donovan on U.S. Roster (http://www.mlsnet.com/content/04/us0325roster.html)

I wonder what his illness is -- homesickness?? Maybe we could convince Bruce to Viduka his arse? [For newbies, this is an elliptic reference to the Australian Federation recently enforcing a match ban on Viduka believing him not to be injured. He missed a match for Leeds when they really, really needed him.]

I guess this means a fresh Donovan and tired Convey in our opener on Saturday. I think this is an unfortunate twist of fate! The other guys will just have to suck it up! I hate this friendly crap -- stay home Bobby!

I'm hoping Carroll will have a monster game and keep SJ from making 40 yard runs at our keeper.

Keep your shirt on whiney boy -- you're in RFK!

Well Tom, seeing as Landon did not play in the CONCACAF Champions Cup game on Wednesday I would guess that he really is sick. No reason for him to fly over and not be able to play against Poland. I hope he fully recovers from his illness on April 4th.

He really sounded sick on Thursday's conference call.

April 3rd?

It doesn't matter. There's no national team call up on April 3rd.

Yes it is a FIFA friendly day.

Yes it is a FIFA friendly day.

Which would only matter in Donovan's case if the US had a game.

It's just as well anyway, he needs a short break. He has been doing USMNT U-23 for the past few months now. He hasn't even been in preseason much. Its just a freindly so let him rest and prepare for the new season and start Mathis in spot.

I think he was asking about the 31st. Meaning that if Donovan had just said he did not want to report to Poland then he could be forced to sit out his next league game. Which in this case does not fit because he truly is ill and not just not showing up like Viduka did.

No, it means he would be ineligible to play for his club while the National Team was in camp.

You guys need to stop looking at the other team and start watching your own.

Don't even get me started on that one.

WRONG! The suspension, if envoked, is for the 5 days following the missed national team match.

Fifa regulations stipulate a player who does not comply with a call-up request will be suspended from playing for his club for a period of five days after the date of the game for which he had been initially been selected.

The ASA invoked a FIFA ruling that players who withdraw from international matches cannot play for their club for five days following Viduka's failure to turn up for Australia's match against Venezuela in Caracas yesterday.

Viduka, 28, is banned for five days after the Australian Soccer Association invoked a FIFA ruling designed to stop players pulling out of international matches without good reason.

Whenever I call in "sick" I make sure I sound really sick too. ;)

So you're saying that Bobby should fake illness while you deride Landon for allegedly doing the same, even though you have no proof?

i am more interested in donovan being battered, bruised and broken (in spirit if not body) about this time on April 3 than worrying about what kind of ********** move he is trying now.

So you're saying that Bobby should fake illness while you deride Landon for allegedly doing the same, even though you have no proof? You've got the wrong bias goin' on. I want Convey to play for DC United and I would rather he not play this friendly in Europe with the season starting on Saturday. Sheesh!

[/rhetorical question]
Anyway, what's wrong with deriding this whiney opponent? You trying to pick a fight or something?

As do I.

Anyway, what's wrong with deriding this whiney opponent?

Because the derision is being done with no basis in fact. Just because you don't like Landon is no reason to suggest that he's faking it. Sanneh just replaced Armas, (http://sports.yahoo.com/sow/news?slug=ap-usa-sanneh&prov=ap&type=lgns) who actually did play on Wednesday, so why does Armas get a free pass when Landon, who didn't?
