Hello et bonjour.

The 2009 tourney to decide who gets to hold on to both the Voyageurs Cup for a year, and walks off with a newly-minted invite to the 09-10 CONCACAF Champions League, is already underway.

The Impact join the fray next Wednesday, hosting TFC - who opened their Championship account this week with a 1-0 home win over the Whitecaps - and look to start seeing about retaining their title...

...although, if the PR Islanders qualify for next year's CCL, the Impact could still end up with an invite to the next Copa Sul-Americana if they don't win the Championship this year.

All told, not the worst consolation prize ever.

(That said, if PR do fail to qualify for the CCL, they would go to the CONMEBOL tourney instead, and the Impact would be left behind.)

Who's going to be at the game? Busing out with the Ultras to catch it. They better pull of their first win of the season on wed. I can't say that I'd still be upset if they could atleast do that.

The Sudamericana? Looks like Montreal and PR did raise some heads with their runs last year.

Well, given how poorly the NCC is going for the Impact right now, the whole issue of CONMEBOL not accepting Mexican teams for the two regional club tourneys might spell trouble for other potential CONCACAF invitees...

...oh, and the Islanders are in for next year's CCL, so the Impact could get to go, if CONMEBOL deign to invite them.

Well, there are ups, and there are downs.

On the down, there'll be no CCL this time - though the Impact will have a key role as kingmakers on the 18th.

On the up, the Mexican teams look like they are back in the CONMEBOL club competitions next year - so, hopefully, said confederation will consider offering a Montréal Invite!

(Well, we'll see...)

If TFC makes 4 goals in Montreal, I'll eat my hat. in the middle of the field.

But I'm happy to see Vancouver over the Reds.

The Impact have been matching up better against the Whitecaps and TFC than the results suggest. That said I see us spoiling the 'best team in Canada's' CL dream once again. I will be at the game.

So will I, but to see TFC lift the the Voyageurs Cup.

hahahahah..... I can't wait to hear the groaning again. One time is a fluke, twice is what? I'm fairly sure thrice is a trend so you better get ready. Even De Rosario evidently couldnt get you the cup.

TFC have to win by 4 goals, even against the Impact reserves that is not going to happen.

Bottom line, TFC will have to go all out and just try to score goals. Maybe even play 3-4-3. It doesn't matter if you give up a goal if you fail to score at least 4. If they can get the ball going into the net maybe they can even win 5-1 or some-such result. Bottom line, everybody up and go all out.

I'm sorry even against one of the better teams in the Mexican League, going ALL out offensively, they only just BARELY got 5-2 and they were lucky to get that. You think TFC is going to make it 5-1? Hah. Especially if they play 3-4-3, Montreal's known for fast counter-attacks. You think TFC won't pay?

I call 2-1 victory for Montreal, TFC need to win but without any pressure and with an exposed backend open to quick counters, I think Montreal will be the one actually scoring more cause they'll get better breakways with the Toronto's defense pushed up. They'll be punished for that. And if we score early, like in Mexico where we went up by 2 in the first, TFC will give up. Theyre not at home, they won't have any energy behind them.

I don't see Montreal winning with nothing to play for. I don't think we'll see Jordan either. TFC may not get the goals, but Montreal will bring little to the pitch but pride.

Toronto's been playing 3-4-3 and 4-3-3 recently ... they'll probably go for 4-3-3 I'd think. But hard to see how they are going to get 4 goals given how difficult it's been for them to score ... even if they do have Gerba.

But perhaps we'll be lucky, and they'll get a couple early ... and the game will be interesting to watch!

No Grande, Pizzolito, Brown, Braz, Sebrango, or Jordan. Furthermore Placentino came on as a sub. Those are 7 first teamers. Congrats on beating Impact B. The sad thing about the loss is that if you take De Rosario out of the picture TFC would have most likely failed to score. Not to mention Byers and Mayard missed some great chances of their own.

Good luck in the CL Toronto, you will need it. With a small roser, no depth, and an over reliance of De Rosario I really do not like your chances. Honnestly I wouldent be surprised if the Islanders knock them out in the qualifiers.

Guevara had 2 goals and an assist, so he accounted for the other 3, but I feel vindicated that I was right when I called Montreal not going full strength and giving TO a good shot at the goal total.
