Hi.
Surprised there's not a thread here for this already - but as you know, the 2009 NCC is already underway, with the 'Caps losing 1-0 at BMO Field to Toronto FC.
Of course, as last year's tournament showed, the event is by no means over yet - and all three teams are still quite capable of taking the Voyageurs Cup home...

I'm somewhat surprised that, given the position the Whitecaps are in this year's tournament right now, that this thread has been so quiet...

Caps knocked off TFC 2-0 at Swangard last night.
TFC & Montreal play June 18. If TFC fails to win by 4 goals, Vancouver is declared national champion and reps Canada at the CONCACAF Champions League.
Most discussion is on the Southsiders board at forum.vancouversouthsiders.com

It would be neat to see the under-renovation BC Place get an early look-in soccer-wise, if the 'Caps do qualify and end up facing a big Mexican club...

Due to work issues I missed the match last night but was able to avoid all news reports until watching it today. Wow what a game! Our passing was great and it was a totally deserved win. Southsiders were very loud coming across the tv....super effort! Gerry Dobson was hilarious when he mentioned the red patch plastics were in fact not real fans...LOL.
Touching on the stadium. The use of BC Place could be in question for matches in the Group Stage of CL. With the stadium already booked with the Lions, concerts, and home shows it might get interesting how they can fit in matches. The only dates which they can't do a home match for sure is August 25-27 dates. AC/DC is in the house!
If we make it to the QF on March 9 it would be nine days after the Olympics so that shouldn't be an issue or they could do an away leg then. Although, if the story is correct they are building the gas fed cauldron in a 20ft hole in the middle of the stadium floor. Not sure how long that would take to dismantle and get the stadium back to normal.

I was sooo proud of our buys for their gutty performance. They never stopped pushing forward and despite looking like the poorer team in technical talent, looked like the team of greater character and heart.
And what a second goal by Toure! Did you see that ball? It had ZERO spin on it: it was hit dead-centre, straightforward, right where it needed to go.
And BIG UPS to Southsiders. I've always admired their commitment and boisterousness, but this was the first time I have ever been impressed with them as a supporters group during the game. They sung LOUD, and IN TUNE, and had a GREAT VARIETY OF SONGS. Very impressive from the Southside, and it gives me great hope that we could indeed have the best supporters section in MLS come 2011.
What a great GREAT result in every aspect of the game!
(My only complaint was that the Caps wear an all-white kit too often (we're NOT the LA Gals!).)

yup by far the best game I have ever been to in the 5 years I have been going to whitecaps games. It was a lot of fun.

Well, I agree with the sentiment. For a team that desperately wants to be associated with the NASL Whitecaps, why have they switched their colours to all white? Everyone knows that it should be blue shorts with the white tops and socks.

Although I guess ANYTHING is better than the all-white bar-less practice kits they wore at the Beckham exhibition game.
What on earth was Lenarduzzi thinking? Doesn't he know ANYTHING about branding??

I've complained about them wearing those practice kits for their pre-season games for years. They hold these games all over the lower mainland to expand their brand, then fail to wear their proper kits for these matches.
However for the Beckham game, i've heard that they were going to wear their proper blue away kits but LA showed up with their dark kits so the Caps had to switch to white. The Whitecaps white kits were at the cleaners apparently, so they had to wear their training ones.

This may be a stupid question, but with the hype of the game, how do you not know what kit LA would be bringing? I was always under the impression that the kits needed to be arranged in advance of the match to ensure there is no conflict.

My recollection of this was that the jerseys were indeed sorted out in advance, and then LA muffed something at the last minute. Vancouver was indeed going to wear their USL unis, and swapped to their trainers to accommodate LA's screw up

So the latest:
TFC has to go to Montreal and win by 4 or more goals to be the Canadian Champion. If not, Vancouver is the Canadian Champion.
The Canadian Champion will play Puerto Rico Islanders in a play-in for the CONCACAF Champions League and the winner enters group C :
Group C
Columbus Crew (USA)
Saprissa (CRC)
Cruz Azul (MEX)-Herediano (CRC) winner
Canada Champion (Toronto FC or Vancouver Whitecaps)-Puerto Rico Islanders (PUR)

I have never been so mad at the French in all my life. 6-1?! SIX TO ONE?!!!! How can you lose at home at all? But SIX TO ONE?!
The Whitecaps gave gutty performances and I really thought this was their chance. Then Montreal craptaculates themselves into a six to one loss at home to their archrivals and suddenly the Whitecaps are having to wait yet another year for a Voyagers Cup win (Yes, I spelled it without a "u". You think I am going to spell anything the French way anymore?)
Credit TFC for playing a good game, but Montreal missed how many wodnerful chances in the second half -- 4? 5? And how many more times should they have been able to create a decent chance? 4? 5?
Craptastic, Montreal. Nice going.
*sigh*

it was vs the reserve team though but still what a poor effort.

Ya you've gotta wonder why on earth they started their b squad. Especially in goal. Was there a little chat on the sidelines (or in the head offices) about finally giving TFC some hardware??? **chuckle**

Montreal Impact=big disgrace.

What a sad performance. Why they would send out the reserve/youth team is beyond me.
People have long memories and this is a small tournament. One day the Whitecaps will have the final game and Montreal needs them to go through or some other type of seemingly meaningless game to the 'Caps and something more important to the Impact.

Montreal has three games in six days, last night's was the first, and they were already eliminated from the Championship. So can I can kind of understand why they put reserve squad in instead of their starters.
Plus side, the next one is against the Whitecaps. Too bad it's in Saputo Stadium, I'm sure y'all would like to let Montreal know what you really think of them in person, but hopefully the team will give the Impact a royal ass whooping on your behalf.
