Ok.. so the season is winding down what are your thoughts on a Premiership XI ok, starting eleven and a bench if you want to. No restrictions on bans and injuries... we are simply looking at who played best in the Prem this year, wether they are fit now, or if they are suspended... :)

Here is mine...

Van der Sar

Gallas Campbell Ferdinand Bridge

Ronaldo Gerrard Lampard Pires

Henry Saha

Bench: Juninho, Ruud, Scholes, Terry, Given

It was so hard to leave Scholes and Ruud out of starting team, however I have felt that Ruud has not been overly impressive this seaons despite his high goal total and Saha did so well while playing for Fulham - granted, they were doing well, but I dont rate many of their players and he was their only threat wheras we have Scholes, Giggs, etc. Scholes has been good, but not clearly dominant and superior to all other attacking midfielders as he usually is.. maybe Im only leaving him out because I hold him to a higher standard...

Any list that does not include Patrick Vieira in the Midfield can not be taken seriously, particularly this year as he has been totally health. He is miles ahead by any measure of Gerrad or Lampard.

And including a player who limped off the pitch in December and not returned at all (Rio) is also a joke. On the total of this season's results, not pure potential Rio will never be on there. Mills has been a rock. Emerton has been much more of a consistent contributor than Ronaldo.

GEEZ... I made it clear that injuries or suspensions had nothing to do with my team... I originally selected Viera, but then I decided I wanted to be as attacking as possible and Gerrard offers far more going forward than Viera, paired with Lampard I thought the team would have more than enough cover... everyone is entitled to opinions and mine is that Ronaldo has played exceedingly well.. others see it differently but I am biased, im a ManU fan... as for Rio not being there I guess that you must either be a better judge of talent than Sven or that all the other candidates who are better than him are internationals...

To logical posters... um, non-Arsenal fans... j/k
I mean Arsenal fans can never be happy... out of 11 players I gave them three... he wants a fourth?

Nah, most of the lot won't be happy till you give em all 11. ;)

Interesting list. I think Scholes has been maybe our most consistent guy all year--so consistent in fact that people tend to forget about him. Although he's not going to set up a whole lot of goals, so I can understand why people will leave him out of the midfield.

Also, I don't know that any keeper has stood out a lot this season either. Howard did well early on, but I think he still makes too many mistakes to be considered the "best" in the Premiership. Van der Sar is a fair pick, but I'd probably choose Cudicini. Also I've been impressed by Nigel Martyn.

Also defenders are a hard call. If you don't count suspensions, Rio has played very well. Wayne Bridge has played well, but not so sure on Gallas or Terry.

I'm going to repeat, I'm going to assume your 11 are who you considered had the best year. This is just for this year and this year only. If you think that if any club could have a choice between Gallas or Mills for the entire season, or Rio for 5 months whom would they choose?

OGS may have been the best right wing this season, but he didn't play. I'm not counting the suspension for the suspension itself. I'm considering the amount of time he did not play.

Rio is a better player than either of the two. But his absence from half his teams games would take him out of THIS YEARS XI

IMO

Your grievance is duly noted, I realise that my error was not in making explicitly clear that I was not taking injuries or suspensions into context - just enough consistent play as my only judge, but rather in assuming that you could understand what I meant by that... so my edited, updated Premiership eleven is...

Lauren Campbell Toure Cole

Interesting. Given the rules a fair shout and pretty close to what I would have come up with. But a few things that strike me as a bit strange;

- no RVN?? Gotta be Henry & RVN for me. Two top scorers and with such different and complementary styles. But you haven't even got him on the bench but do have Defoe who has only been in the Prem a few weeks??

- Scholes, as per previous post one of the most underrated players in England, except foreign coaches, SAF and the England coach who recognise his class, player of the month in December, should at least make the bench, ahead of Keane if necessary

I just thought that Rio would make the team before anyone other than Campbell, Terry is excellent though... Bergkamp is not justified in my opinion... there have been so many excellent strikers this season, yes he is playing like he is not 99 years old, but not better than Saha, Ruud, or even Forssell, who should get honorable mention...
