I was wondering if there was any discussion on groups or plans for USA fans to Germany in 2006. Any replies would be great.
Thanks

I think it may be a little early to start specific planning for the 2006 WC, but with that said, I plan on being there.

What about tickets? Do we go through the USSF? If not, then who? About when will we start seeing ticket info? Any replies would be much appreciated.

The group that FrankC suggested is a good source. It seems that USSF will have some tickets but its mostly going to be up to the German hosts where to get tickets.

In preperation for Germany, may I suggest reading 23 Days in Korea. It is a look at the Cup through an American fan's eyes. There is quite a bit in it about the planning done, securing tickets, hotels, transportation, etc. Of course, in addition to being a sort of roadmap to planning this type of trip, it will allow you to relive that fantastic month.

I'll be there! It would be great to have a block of support with signage, etc.

re: "23 Days in Korea" - who cares about the shameless promo, I'm buying it!

I plan of vacationing every fourth year, for three weeks, wherever the cup is.

Good plug on the book. The sample chapter makes me want to watch US/Mexico (2-0 in '02), just to see us kick their aces.

i plan on going (out of nyc) and would most likely be going with at least 6 people. the preliminary plans are to be based out of munich, then take the train to the city USA is playing in if its not munich.

i will be going, even if i have to quit my job.

that all being, it is pretty early to start planning now; besides saving $.

My son (11 in 2006) and I will also be flying out the NYC area and will also be choosing one German town as a base. However, I am thinking about a smaller town that is on a train line as a base (maybe Maniz, Koblenz, Darmstadt, Mannheim, Heidelberg, etc). These towns are centrally located between Gelsenkirchen in the north and Stuttgart in the south. Twenty-four matches will take place between these two German cities that are about 200 miles apart. Of course, my town selection could change depending on where the US team will be playing its matches (Group B & G would be best for this plan of mine, A & H the worst) and a long trip outside this area is possible. But, I would like to be based in this central location to minimize my travel time to other matches that interest me and are being played between Gelsenkirchen to Stuttgart. I want to attend as many matches as possible. I am in the early stages of my investigation into the frequency of train schedules, hotel availabitity, local town atmosphere, etc. The distribution of teams to the specific groups will be a key element of my final choice of a base town. I figure a smaller town will probably be cheaper and friendlier.

I am planning home base in the Frankfurt area. Maybe even a bit west. Or south, the wife wants to hit Italy on off days.

Would love for the US to get a match (or matches) at the Kaiserslautern venue. Figure we would have a good crowd, being the city where Ramstein is. Not that our servicefolks aren't going to make the respective drives.

I've been looking at potential itineraries, and it looks like I'll have to wait for the draw to come out, then make all my reservations...most likely fly in/out of Frankfurt, then tailor my route to wherever the US is playing.

Anybody know how FIFA's ticket draw works? I saw on their website applications will be accepted Q1 2005.

The World Cup Express group (about 20 of us, I hope) will be there, leaving fromn the D.C. area. Brother Bill is in Germany right now for 5 months and is scouting things out.
Our plans right now (and I'm sure they'll change) is to plan on being there for the duration, get as many tickets as we can ahead of time, and be able to travel anywhere. If anyone has ideas, send them out - it's not too early to start planning and definitely not too early to start dreaming.

We have a thread started for those that are either heading from or flying out of PDX to Frankfurt. Lufthansa started that flight last year and I used it the last time I flew to Portland and it is a very nice 9 hr. Flight.
I'm going to be heading to Germany from Kuwait, 2 more years!!!!!!

if it is anything like the last 2 world cups, they will have a lottery, you must choose the level of seating (category) and the mumber of games you wish to apply for... you will be limited to 4 tickets and will have to give a passport number and name for each... you will choose whether you want to apply for games in one place (location-specific tickets) or the games for one team (team-specific tickets) and you will have to pay for all of the tickts up front... If you apply for team-specific tickets and your team does not qualify, you will get a refund... if you apply for games through the semifinals and your team is knocked out in the round of 16, you will get a refund for those games that your team does not qualify for...

once you apply, you wait... and hopeully get accepted...

if you don't get a place, there is still the option of going with a tour group (who will charge you a fortune for rooms and transportation that you could get for a quarter of what they are chargeing you... of course, these packages come with match tickets but usually not airfare)...

also, in the past, the USSF has made some tickets available through some supporters groups, but I suspect that demand may well markedly outstrip supply in Germany and they did not finally let people know for sure until quite late (a month or two before the start of the cup)...

If it is anything like France or K-J, this is how it will shake out...
