Can someone explain to me why Celtic haven't been proclaimed League Champions? By my reckoning, since Rangers have five league matches left, meaning that they could earn, at most, 15 points and are 19 points behind Celtic, the Bhoys can't be caught, even if they lose out.
Am I missing something....?

Rangers have 10 games to go. After 33 games the league splits into a top and bottom 6 who play each other once more. Stupid, i know, but that's the SPL for you!

Okay, that explains it! I'm still sort of confused about that "split" thing, and I thought that it had already occurred. So, there will be three more OF league matches then, right?
I was going by the fixture lists at the BBC and SPL websites, which obviously don't have the post-split games listed.
Thanks for the info.

Hey Morton,
I used to take the ferry over to Dunoon years ago and never knew there was a club in Greenock. I would have tried to make a match back in the 80's instead of spending time at the Clansman or Milne's. I am sorry I missed it but I bet the citizens of Greenock are not sorry the US Navy is gone.

SYoshonis, the 12 SPL teams play each other 3 times i.e. 33 games. After this the SPL, basically, splits into 2 leagues of 6. The 6 teams play each other once i.e. 5 more games, bringing the total up to 38. The top bottom half team can never go above the bottom, top half team, even if they end up with more points.
There have been two Old Firm league games so far this season. So that leaves one pre-split and one post-split game left.
There can be no fixture list for post-split games because nobody knows the make up of the top or bottom six so, until the 33 games are played, you can't see the post-split fixtures.

It really was a stupid idea from the start! I wonder how you go about getting a job at the spl or the sfa.

Yup!
It might work if there was 4 or 5 teams going for the title or a few teams battling to avoid relegation but in the most uncompetitive league on Earth, it just does not work.
I don't know what the way ahead is for Scottish football, but it sure as hell ain't working (at the top level) at the moment.

I was home at the weekend and was at ibrox for the match. It was good to see so many Scottish players in the team! I think Chris Burke could be a bit special. Its got to be encouraging the amount of youth that is getting a chance just now. Even at Rangers. I think we just need the right person at the top!

True, I saw the highlights and Alan Hutton looked quite promising too.
It's very encouraging to see so many youngsters showing promise, at the OF and the other clubs.
Think of the midfield Scotland could have in a coulpe of years.....
McFadden, Pearson, Ferguson, Fletcher
I think that's a formidable midfield in anyone's book.
Burke has looked good anytime I've seen him too. There's players like Diamond (Aberdeen), Brown (Hibs), Hammell (Motherwell), Turner (Everton), etc. The future looks a bit brighter than it has for a while anyway.

Hutton had a bit of an arrogant swagger about him which was good to see!
It does look a really good midfield.
I would also like to start seeing Scottish player moving to England again and doing well!

I don't get to see the likes of Diamond and Brown etc enough. Do you think they have what it takes?

I've not seen too much of Diamond but plenty of people have said that he is very good and I think he's still just 17. (That's scary, SPL players are starting to be younger than me!)
Scott Brown is a very talented young player. He's fast, tricky, bags of skill and has already scored a few goals. He seems very arrogant and a bit of a hot head but in a young player this can be a good thing, if it's channelled properly in the future.
He looked very good against Celtic on Sunday. Made some good runs and generally gave their defence a very tough time.

Cappielow park, where Morton play, is behind where these supporters are. I wouldn't be surprised if you past by it many times! You're probably right about the second thing though!

Would that be from the Dundee Utd play-off game?
Cappielow is really easy to miss though as you can't really see it from the main road. I made my first visit in August this season and the only reason I found it was that I kew the big craine thing was visible from the main stand.
