Ottawa puts ban on Leafs' jerseys
City council passes 'tongue-in-cheek' bylaw

Don Cherry and Pat Quinn take note: Leafs jerseys on fans have been banned at the Corel Centre.

Just kidding.

In a symbolic move, a city committee passed a resolution Tuesday banning the wearing of Leafs jerseys in the Ottawa Senators' home rink when the Leafs play the Sens on April 3.

The ban, sure to incite anger, defiance and disobedience from diehard Leafs fans, is not official, but covers that match and any playoff games.

Fans who insist on wearing Leafs jerseys will be asked to make a donation to the Ottawa Food Bank.

"We want the Maple Leaf fans in the Corel Centre to realize the city is behind the Senators," said Ottawa Mayor Bob Chiarelli. "Hopefully, they can take a joke better than Don Cherry or (Leafs coach) Pat Quinn.

"Certainly, it's tongue-in-cheek. It's meant to create some excitement around the city about what probably is the most significant hockey rivalry in North America," the mayor said.

Toronto Considers Sens Jersey Ban

A Toronto City Councillor is challenging Ottawa Councillors to a game of hockey to settle their rivalry.

The move comes after Ottawa banned Maple Leaf jerseys inside the Corel Centre.

Toronto is now considering a similar ban at the Air Canada Centre on Senators jerseys for the same penalty -- a donation to an area food bank.

Donation to a local food bank ehh?
Isles fans who wear their crap to the Garden are liable to get some free beers - in their face!

On a serious note, I wish there was crowd segragation at rivalry games in the NHL. There is no logical reason why I should be forced to sit next to Isles scum when I patron the Nassau Mausaleum to see the beloved Blueshirts play. The crowd loyalties are usualy divided 50 / 50 or 60 / 40

For those type of games, The arena seat allocations should be divided between the 2 teams fans.

I'm sure there'd be NO problem with season-ticket holders getting dislodged for "rival scum" and knowing exactly what the proportion'll be that night.

Isles have 8, 000 season ticket holders. They could easily offer the NYR games at the Mauseleum as a seperate package not included in the regular package. The tickets for those games would be sold by section. Rangers are given tickets in the other end. and then they could work out some crazy way for the rest of it. Yea I know it will never work..... Just wishful thinking...... tired of sitting next to scum bags at those games....

Bumpity bump.

This is gonna be a good series... :)

Fans of both teams will try to attend away games. Try telling them what to wear.

They should just set aside a certain block of seats for the opposing fans. Only season ticket holders from that team should be able to purchase those tickets. Why can't they do this?

That's just silly. North America isn't England and most of the games are on weeknights. You don't have trainloads of fans travelling from Anaheim, Detroit or Carolina, or even Philly or Buffalo. There just isn't enough demand to justify setting aside a block of seats.
Do it just for the Rangers games? Even sillier, when Islanders vs Rangers games are the hottest regular season tickets of the regular season.

In addition to what was already said, if you set up a block of seats, you let the opposing fans group their voices together. It's better for the home team, if they're spread out. (Case in point, 2/28/01 US against Mexico. They could have designated a "Mexican section", but then the home field advantage would have been lessened somewhat.)

Besides, most fans aren't gonna travel on a week day. You'll get a few on the weekend, but not anything huge.

Outside of college football and soccer, I can't really think of any team sports with considerable amounts of "away" fans (exception auto racing and games like kings/clippers, rangers/devils/islanders, etc.). Maybe some college basketball to some extent...

fair enough........ But I still think it could work for certain games. :)
