Well, the games fall on a Monday and Tuesday, which isn't so nice, but ohh well.
7/26/04 (Monday) - Liverpool vs. Celtic - Rentschler Field, East Hartford, CT
8/3/04 (Tuesday) - AS Roma vs. Liverpool - Giants Stadium, East Rutherford, NJ
I wonder if Liverpool will schedule another game(s)independent of ChampionsWorld. AC Milan and Liverpool currently only have two matches on the schedule, and Bayern Munich only one. ManUtd, AS Roma, and Chelsea have three and Celtic has four.
I wonder what happened to Inter Milan and Porto who had been mentioned to be on Celtic's schedule originally abd were rumoured to be Liverpool's opponents as well.

On the DC United boards, Steven Goff (Wash. Post) says that RFK "is still in the mix but because of contractual situations, they were unable to announce the game today. we'll probably get official word of the date and teams next week."
So a Liverpool - AC Milan match could yet be added.

My source tells me that Inter pulled out and Porto could possibly be the team to replace them. There's also a possibility for a third match at RFK around the 29th, but nothing has been set.
If you're going to the Celtic game, I've checked on rooms at Foxwoods Hotel & Casino, and they're going for about $150 for two double beds for the night. Mohegan Sun, is a few miles closer, but also more expensive.

I think my rate will be $0/night with my brother (who lives in Hartford) or my college friend (who lives just outside Hartford), but I still need to confirm that! :)

Well, if I replicate my Vegas success at Foxwoods, I could come out ahead on the deal, so I stick my tongue out to you, sir!

I will be working in Hyde Park, NY that week, that means my work is paying for my flight out there. :)
What's the best way to get from Hyde Park to Giants Stadium, by train???

Cool, thanks Lanky. Yeh, I'll be at FDR Library all that week.
I like the way my work flies me in for DC's home opener next month and then for Liverpool's match with Rome.
I am gonna steal my brother's '84 shirt when I visit him in June. Memories of Roma and all that ...

That's the only reason for going to Hyde Park.

Maybe there will be a penalty called against us and we'll get to wobble our knees like Grob...

As long as there's no repeat performance of petrol bombs being thrown at Liverpool fans when we leave I'll be happy.

Well since they are playing on my birthday I guess the gods are calling me up there.
Anyone know if the train service from NY to Hartford would be easy?

Breaking News. Porto have been added to the line-up, but no dates, opponents, or venues have been announced yet. http://www.championsworld.com/press_box/news_detail.asp?prID=36

www.amtrak.com shows morning service having you change at New Haven. A handful of trains run both ways in the morning and afternoon rush hours. It takes about 2.5 hours, and should cost about $72 round-trip.

Lanky, my minivan bus stands ready to carry up to 5 Reds to CT and NJ. Where we stay means nothing to me. I've got a place I can stay in jersey but we could also go up and back in a day for that game.

By the way I guess I'll have to dust off the split Liverpool/Celtic scarf I bought on Walton Breck Road.

And if anybody in NYC may happen to need a ride to Hartford, let me know. I'll be driving up for that one. Giants Stadium is a train and bus ride for me, but Hartford I'd be happy to car pool.

Liverpool Likely to Play at RFK
Friday, March 19, 2004; Page D02
Steven Goff
http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/articles/A4808-2004Mar18.html
Liverpool, one of the most celebrated clubs in English soccer history, appears to be on its way to RFK Stadium this summer.
Although Washington wasn't included on the schedule released yesterday for an exhibition tour involving some of Europe's biggest names, plans are being finalized for RFK to host Liverpool against a team to be determined on July 29.
Liverpool, an 18-time English league champion, was to play Inter Milan at RFK, but the Italian club apparently pulled out of the tour this week. A replacement team from Europe or Latin America, as well as Liverpool's formal confirmation to play in Washington, will likely be unveiled in the next two weeks.
