View Full Version : Would you want Beckham back?

With the rumours about Beckham going to Chelsea, I began thinking about Beckham returning. Regardless of whether or not he would return (although with this recent form, perhaps SAF is not for long), would you want him? Purely for footballing reasons, I would. Kleberson is nice, but Beckham is a superstar,no?

With Saha on the bench, that's firepower!

Yes! There was absolutely NO reason for selling Beckham aside from Sir Alex's ego feeling threatened.
We haven't gained a single thing from this sale and it's been one of the major factors in our slump this season.

selling beckham was a disaster from day one.
what saddened me was the lack of respect he was given as he left the club. the number of fans i spoke to that were of the opinion "yeah, so what...we'll be alright/ he's not that good" sickened me. for me, he's one of the greatest footballers of his generation.
SAF is not faultless. i think it was wrong to not question his motives on this one.

Beckham was also sold since he had a poor season last year, which is well noted.
I woud like Beckham back, but if that was at the expense of Ronny & Saha (they both cost 12.5(ish) mn, Becks cost 25)... then no. Ronaldo is a superior player on the right wing, imo - with a far greater lifespan. Scholes is better in the centre, and Giggs is the best left winger of the past 15-20 years, plus Bekcham can't play on the left.
The one I regret selling is Stam.

I thought selling Becks was a mistake, and I still do. United had the best midfield in the world, IMHO, and when they broke that up, it became extremely difficult to compete against the Real Madrid's of the world. Now, a few injuries, and United has been exposed. :( Klebersen isn't a great player, and I don't think he'll ever be anything more than a stopgap. Ronaldo may become a great player, but he isn't yet. Ronaldinho would have filled the void, but United didn't land him.
Becks might return to England, but the fued between Victoria and SAF will fan the disagreements between Becks and SAF and prevent it from happening. If Becks returns to England, it'll be to London, and the only team that would be able to do that is Chelsea. The only chance of another team might be if Becks himself took a very decisive personal stand and declared he was returning to Old Trafford, but I doubt that will happen. I would hail the return of the conquering hero, I just don't expect that it will happen.
United need to make some changes in the summer. While I'm a big Giggs fan, I think his days may be numbered. Certainly United needs to bring in a top-class central defender and a fullback. Obviously, right midfielder is also a spot that may be addressed. Personally, I always preferred Joaquin for that spot, and if he's available and not unrealistically priced, that's who I think United should go after.

that's exactly what it is. i remember him saying Beckham was causing 2 much of a media stir for Manchester United. Ferguson just wants the spotlight on him . but the tranfer ain't hurting Beckham as we can see it's hurting us. Lack of quality crosses and low danger rate on Free kick ,we are struggling with corner kicks also. and Ferguson still insist he was correct in selling Beckham . What a C*NT !!!!!!!

Beckham is one of the MOST OVERRATED players in the history of the EPL.
He's not even England's best midfielder. Not even close.
Better English players include....
Steven Gerrard
Shawn Wright Phillips
Paul Scholes
Frank Lampard
Scott Parker
Oh and BTW Joaquin is 100x better than Beckham is at playing RM.

I love how people only see the good things Beckham did when they talk about him with rose tinted glasses.
Facts
1) Roberto Carlos had Beckham in his pocket in every single game we play against Real Madrid. This greatly reduced our attacking potential as Beckham couldn't get down the wing at all and was constantly harrased off the bal by Carlos. This was a major factor in the sale. Fergy knew we needed 'more' if we were going to do anything in the CL as the system we played was no longer catering to Beckham and he had to do more work as an indivual i.e taking his man on on the right wing and finding his own space to make his passes. The EPL was never a reason in why Beckham was sold, Europe was though.
2) Keane and a few other players were not gelling with Beckham anymore and the dressing room had become unsettled as the Beckham infatuation reached its highest ever point in England. It is better to remove one man then to unsettle 5 or 6 others!
3) Beckham wanted to play in the middle of the park and that was never going to happen at Man U! He doesn't finish well enough to displace Scholes and isn't 2footed like Scholes is either which are both essential in being an attacking middle man at O.T and he certainly isn;t going to displace Keane..so where exactly was left for Beckham to play? He was veering away from the right side of the pitch alot in his last games and that angered Ferguson even more.
Beckham was a great servant for Man U, but the relationship came to a natural end as his status grew and the role he was being asked to play began to displease him. He was treated very badly towards the end of his tenure and there was no need for that. At the same time Ole out performed Beckham in the title run-in which made his position at the club even more untenable - in short - there was nowhere left for Beckham or the club to go, so he was sold.
His experience is missed right now more than his football skills are.

I completely agree. Beckham is overrated and he had a terrible season last year. He didn't even start. Additionally, he thought he was bigger than the team and he let's his wife run him.
The current situation has nothing to do with selling Beckham. It has to do with Rio not peeing in a cup. The day he came off we gave up a terrible goal and lost to Wolves. When he left we began leaking goals, and everything began to snowball starting with the confidence in the team.
It just amazes me how people always defend Beckham and think he's a god or something. He's nowhere near as good as half the players in our current team.

It was clear to me that Becks was putting more effort into his games for England than United towards the end.
Now, whether this was because he was bored at United, or was it his deteriorating relationship with Ferguson, or was it the problems with Ferguson and Posh, or something else, we'll never know for sure.
Keano called Becks out with his "some players are more worried about Rolex watches than the team's success" shot and Becks' performances did not improve.
He started brightly for Real Madrid, and once again, the effort in his club form was back, simply because he had a point to prove. But he was never going to bring that same effort back to United this year, if Fergie was still in charge....

i'm calling him a C*nt because it was a bad sale. yea Beckham wasn't playing at his best but the same could've been said about Ryan Giggs. ********** Bayen Munich they just saying Garbage. Bayern Munich's nickname is Hollywood FC so signing Beckham would've just blended in nicely. they were just mad because Beckham's corner kick made our Champions League winning goal.
Beckham might be overrated but y'all on here seem more focused on his celebrity status than his football skills. which can only be labeled as jealousy.[/color

They sold him because they didn't want him to leave on a free and could get a better price with 2 years left on contract then with one. Forget about everything that he was saying in the press, he wanted to leave. If he didn't want to leave why had he turned down the extension offers and opted not to negociate.
Back to the orginial question. No I wouldn't want him back. They need to move forward and start rebuilding.

I think Beckham left with the attacking fire of Man Utd.I watched that game with City. I could not believe it was Man Utd. The score was 2-1 in favor of City and it was City doing all the play and attacking . This isn't the United that came back from a goal down to win 2-1 against Bayern Munich in regulation time and won the European Championship.

classic.
thats exactly what I was thinking you know? Because in the world cup England scored how many goals? How many of them came off of Beckham's boot? David Beckham is English football - Owen is pacey and tricky but forever injured - Becks is what Becks is... a great player...
In repsonse to DS... I agree that Becks was less effective against Carlos, but I think we could have played him in the middle behind Scholes when Keane leaves or as the 3rd central mid in the 4-5-1... All im saying is we could still use Becks... there is not a team out there that cant - if only because he takes better freekicks and corners, and plays better crosses than most everyone on the planet...
