t, you never did reveal Pele's 100m time. So go ahead, I'm intrigued. :)

There was a piece with Michael Robinson in a recent magazine in England where he said Barcelona having Ronaldo was like them having Robocop playing up front and I couldn't agree more - for two or three years prior to the injuries he was unquestionably the greatest player ever - only Maradona in the late 80's/ early 90's for Napoli was anywhere close to him. I feel privileged to have watched him play and pity anyone who never witnessed him in full flight prior to his injuries.
Ultimately this draft comes down to how we judge players - over a career or at their peak. However, this discussion can wait until the end of the draft as it may influence future choices.
Hey Ianman, do you have any links to this article on the net? I'd love to read it all. A bit late I know but, having just read thru this thread it stood out.

P.S am I the only guy reading this thread from time to time marvelling at how great a project it was? An awesome achievement.

Yes it was a good thread.

Did teams A or B ever post up their subs?

yeah, I would like to start another draft. I have no idea on what, but it would be a team effect liked this one.

Check page 55 for team A subs bios. We got Luis Monti, Telmo 'Zarra' and Nilton Santos.

I think team Bauzer never picked subs. But when you got Maradona, who needs subs? :D

I agree, this exercise was a lot of fun for me and also educational about the game. It's too bad we cannot bring all the players to life at their peak and have an actual tournament.

Because this thread can never be bumped enough.

Just finished reading this for the first time. Has there even been a thread that rocked as hard as this one?

Read and learn.

I am thinking of doing another one, but we need to change things around so that we have new materials to talk about.

I cannot believe I missed this entire thread. I demand to know why is hasn't been made a "sticky thread". Superb. I salute those involved.

Worry not people.

There are already two major projects afoot to rival even the draft of drafts in their greatness.

One of them is already at a fairly advanced stage and will hopefully be starting in full later this month.

It was a lot of fun participating in this draft and as argentine soccer fan said was very educational for all who participated in it. What made it especially interesting was that it included people from all sorts of different backgrounds who then brought in their disparate likes/dislikes into the player selection. I haven't visited this website in a long time but seeing this thread brought back a lot of good memories.
