I'm new to geocaching, but it seems like something that my son and I can do together. I finally found a cache that I looked for on two previous occasions, but now we found it together.... in a place I swear I looked both times previously!!!!!

I think one of the things that helped was the update to the Geocaching app for the iPhone. It works so much better now, IMO.

Now, I've found a whopping three geocaches!!!!!

Woooo!

I think it'd be fun to hide some too.

My son (6) thinks it's a treasure hunt, and we love putting our names on the paper.

There was one that I found that was so cleverly hidden. In the end of a fence in the middle of a bridge looking over lake michigan. Nice.

I've tried doing this a couple times with the kids - using Google Maps! Thus far, no luck, but, I don't wanna spend money for GPS device.

I don't think googlemaps gets close enough. I have just been using the geocaching app on my iphone. Works great now that they updated it.

If you're really good at interpreting aerial imagery off of the images on Google Maps, you might be able to get yourself within 30 meters or so (just a guess) of a cache if you enter the exact coordinates of the cache. However, that is not nearly exact enough to find something small and hidden in the ground, or under rocks, or in a tree, etc!
