Been seeing that one come for a while....I'm a little sad to see him go because he would have torn CCC defenses asunder...

Still, I'll enjoy watching him with Fulham.

Hello fellow Watford fans: Who do you all think the Hornets should target for the January transfer window?

I think we need to move away from the 4-3-3. It's a nice formation, but I just don't think it'll work if and when we get back to the Premiership--it's simply not defensive enough for a team that's likely to be outclassed in terms of talent by most other clubs in the league. If we want to morph into more of a 4-3-2-1 (christmas tree formation), that's certainly an option, but I'd recommend switching to a 4-4-2. Here's a sample line-up in this formation:

------Henderson------King------

McAnuff--Francis--Mahon--Smith

Stewart--DeMerit--Shittu--Doyley

---------------POOM------------

Ellington, Kabba & Priskin are all substitute options at striker, and McNamee is one of your first subs as a winger. Williamson & Bangura can come off the bench as central mids, and Mariappa as a CB or RB.

Given this 4-4-2, I think Watford NEEDS to sign a true two-way central midfielder. Mahon seems too one dimensional as a destroyer and lacks true ball skill & technical ability. Francis is slightly better, but not good enough for what I'm looking for. A guy in the mold of Fulham's Steven Davis would be a really nice fit for Watford if the Hornets make the switch to a 4-4-2.

Or, how about Derby's Benny Feilhaber? I know I'm biased as an American, but Feilhaber is a proven two-way mid for the US National Team and has had trouble cracking the line-up at Derby. The move may be in his best interests since he'd likely have an opportunity for Premiership football next season (if Watford goes up & Derby goes down).

One thing being hinted about in Watford is the likely departure of Gavin Mahon in January, so yes...I'd say a midfield playmaker would be a good bet.
