Both CR and MEX are qualified for the olympics in August....but on the same days they 'll have to start the W-C-Q round ....CR has a couple of players in both teams, and Lavolpe is the coach for both mexican teams....

Does any body know what will happen?

I heard thet Mex and CR want to start the WCQ rounds before the Olympics, but Honduras is saying no, cause they have friendly games in Africa or Asia before the WCQ's....

Well, it's a little late for Costa Rica and Mexico to complain now, as the schedules for both the Olympics and the Semis for the World CupQualifiers were set by last October. In addition, they had the draw on February 29, several weeks after the Olympic Qualifiers were wrapped up, so they had time to complain even after they qualified for Athens. Schedule and draw for the WCQ semis:

NOW? I think that FIFA will hear the proposal to change the date, but plead fixture congestion in saying "sorry". On the other hand, Aug 18 is the one WCQ date that is not on the international calendar, so they may find some flexibility there. I expect Warner would successfully rally against it in the background, though.

Mexico should have no problem away on August 18 against either St. Kits or Barbados in the semis opener, they should be able to prevail easily with a B team and send their best U-23's and best three overagers to the Olympics. besides, they are in the "Group of Milktoast" for the friendlies, nothing would be on the line.

Costa Rica is in a more difficult quandry, being in the expected WCQ "Group of Death" with rejuvenated competition from Canada, Honduras and the reinstated Guatemala. Not getting the full three points in the August 18 home match against Costa Rica could be fatal in race for the hex. Honduras has really lucked out here. My bet is that Costa Rica will concentrate on the WCQ, and not optimize their Olympic squad. From Canada's point of view, the optimum would be for Honduras to come in and tie a weakened Costa Rica on August 18.

The Olympic tournment is from Friday, August 13, to Sunday, August 29, (draw not yet made) so the ticos always have an option to send some players back after the first two Group games, and send them back if they make the Olympic quarters.
