Poll being conducted by Kölner Stadt-Anzeiger.

    1. FC Köln are in the DFB-Pokal Round of 16 and currently unbeaten in a promotion place in the 2. Bundesliga. Where will the journey lead?
12% Unbeaten back to the Bundesliga and even the DFB-Pokal final in Berlin.
52% Stay calm. The climb is doable, Berlin is wishful thinking.
29% It is far too early to take such things into consideration.

Highlights from yesterday's FC St. Pauli - 1. FC Köln match:

6th minute, Helmes' corner found Wimmer for the header goal.

Early on, Jonas Hector had a sweet cross into the box for Helmes but wasn't able to finish.

In the 28th minute, Hector had a secondary assist, working the give & go play then running at the left flank, supplying the ball back to Halfar who had a sweet feed to find Helmes for the 2nd goal.

Helmes could of had 2-3 goals in the game. He hit the crossbar later on. Ujah provided speed and energy on the attack, and even drew a red card later on a near breakaway. Him, Halfar, & Hector were very involved during the attacking possession with Helmes ofc.

79th minute, the corner delivery tipped off St. Pauli's GK's hands which sailed to an open Yannick Gerhardt on the far side, slipping the ball into the wide open net. He also had a nice shot on net earlier on but matched with a great stretch save by the GK.

2-0 win today against FSV Frankfurt extends Köln's lead on top of the 2.Liga table, to 4 points over Fuerth (atm).

Manager Peter Stöger has done a great job with the team this season. Halfar and Hector work well together on the left side.

Ujah scored the game's first in the 54th minute, set up by Risse.

84th minute, Risse scores his team leading 8th goal on the season. Definitely a great addition to Köln.

    21. Spieltag: SV Sandhausen - 1. FC Köln 0-1 (So 16.02.2014)

Victory increases the lead in the league standings for Köln, now 6 points clear over 2nd place Greuther Fürth.

Helmes scored the lone goal, could've had another one if it wasn't for the crossbar. In every Köln game I've seen this season, Helmes hits at least a couple posts and crossbars. :p He's definitely a hard working forward though, being involved in team's buildup plays and attacking sequences.

Yannick Gerhardt continues to impress me. Set up Helmes goal with a header assist. Active offensively and a calm defensive presence in the midfield throughout. Savvy field movement and ball facilitator.

Denied victory 4 minutes from time.
1:1 draw at home against second-placed Greuther Fürth.
Six point lead at the top maintained but really could have had one foot in the Bundesliga had they won.
12 rounds to play. Feeling confident but far from assured.

That was a really flukey goal scored by Fürth in the final minutes. Took a weird bounce from odd angle and some luck there as well. Otherwise, it was another solid game for the defenders neutralizing much of their attacking plays. Horn wasn't tested much in net but made some key saves.

Köln controlled the flow majority of the game, but looked offensively complacent and inefficient at certain points. Finishing was an issue today. Sub-par shooting day for Helmes, Ujah, Risse, & Halfar. Ujah works hard on the pitch, has good speed and energy, backtracks keenly to help out with tackles and defence too. But he needs to improve his finishing and do a better job converting on those chances. I think Gerhardt was steady today. Made tackles and won some duels in the midfield to win back possession. He's quite effective with forward passing and finding the advancing player on the wing.

Sunday's draw between the second and third place teams means that Köln basically only need to draw at home against Bochum on Monday to assure promotion. This is taking into account Cologne's +19 goal differential over Paderborn.
So Monday night could see a big celebration when the final whistle sounds.
