There are rumors (that apparently have some backing) that Movsisyan is close to moving to one of the bigger teams in Russia, Spartak Moscow. Reports are the fee is somewhere around 7.5M Euros...which would be the biggest ever transfer fee for a former MLS player. I just thought this was interesting, especially considering Movsisyan definitely wasn't the most heralded MLSer but he sure has made the most of his opportunities. Note: I was unsure of what section to put this in.
Yura has also publicly said that he doesn't know of any move and no one from Spartak has contacted him. Its possible that Spartak contacted FC Krasnodar. That was Monday and maybe things have changed... FC Krasnodar coach said this today: Slavoljub Muslin says farewell to Yura Movsisyan
Is that like Roger Espinoza saying a few weeks before the season ended that he didn't have any offers from other teams, and then less than a week after the season is over says he has an offer from Wigan and another European club?
I'm pretty sure Roger and SKC have been talking about his possible move to Wigan since the Olympics. He just confirmed it this past week. Yura said on Monday that there had been no communication between him and Spartak, and it was the first time he heard about it. Even then though, its possible that Spartak and Krasnodar were already talking and they informed him/his agent later. In any case, if it happens, I am very happy for the ex-RSLer. I think he will do great.
I think I remember hearing that Yura didn't really start playing soccer until his teens. During his time at RSL, he was technically stunted, but had amazing drive and was learning fast. We used to make fun of how many times he shot the ball double the height of the goal. However, he NEVER dove for a call, always fought, and most importantly, unlike Espindola, scored clutch goals in big games. I wish him well, and hope he does earn that paycheck.
What a soccer odyssey this kid's been on, and it just keeps getting better. I hope he does well in Moscow and then finds his way back to Western Europe somewhere where I (we) can track him easier.

Technically, Yura is not a yank, although the US had a chance to cap him. He's done very well for Armenia though.
Yes, the Russians drop the last two letters of Spartacus (and, in Cyrillic, "c" becomes "k"), so Spartak is indeed Spartacus.
I don't think that's the case. I remember someone reporting that his process to US citizenship was going to take an additional 12-18 months when he got the call-up to Armenia, and decided to go with it.
Typical BS whining when a player we know does well and why of why couldn't we cap him. I asked him personally about the situation when he played at the Swamp against NY and he said it wasn't looking good. 25 or 26 at best....at best. Really wasn't much of a choice. He may have waited IMO if there was a definitive date, but with our system u can never count on that. BS angst as usual.
I have a Canadian friend in a very similar situation, and it took her 10 years of marriage to "become" a yank. I know a lot more people personally in similar situations that a large minority of "real" Americans would love for them to "self-deport." I agree with you in essence, but technically not a yank.
It all depends on how you look at it. In terms of paperwork he may be American, but when it comes to soccer, he's NOT a Yank.
Very impressive. He led the scoring in Russia for a while IIRC. Armenia will definitely be needing him if they wanna qualify for Euro2016
had we had kilinsmann in place earlier think we coul dhave kepts guys like this on Nats? ibisevic, subotic, etc.... that to me was Bradley's main issue as coach of national team. he did not value these american-eligible players.
Uhh...look upthread a few posts. Unless Klinsmann has some sort of magical ability to grant citizenship, Movsisyan could not have played for the US when he chose to play for Armenia. I'm sure it's still somehow Bradley's fault, though. I heard he engineered the financial crisis, too.
Hope he tears it up for Spartak. Same goes for any player that leaves MLS for "greener" pastures--let the world know that MLS can be a source of quality talent if you look hard enough.
