Your memory is spot on. Before settling on a final captain for the actual qualifying tournament, Caleb Porter rotated the captaincy for a bit (during camps and the playing of "warm-up" friendlies). While not Porter's ultimate choice for captain, Amobi *was* one of the players that captained some of these earlier squads. Thus, I presume that Porter probably also saw some of what you see in Amobi.

I love him as a player and the grit and hustle he has, but he has shown that red mist a couple of times and that is not what this team needs from the captain. Maybe as he gets a little mature and plays at this level a little more that gets under control and then sure give him the nod. With Valdes gone, I think the armband will most likely go to Brian Caroll this year. He's a veteran player that the others look up to. If not Caroll, then it will most likely be Okugo or even Garfan, who has captained the reserve sides occasionally.
