When I watched Villarreal during his DA days the first thing I noticed about him was his instincts, his feel for the game. It's no mystery that he developed playing a lot of street ball. Yes, he played club, but watching good soccer and trying out moves in pickup games helped him develop his savvy. Kids who only play on structured teams seem to lack that awareness.

Disagree. Backe at least trades them away so they can get playing time elsewhere. Schellas just lets them rot.

Kind of a "better to have loved and lossed then never to have loved at all" in a sick twisted kinda of never player youngsters except Agudelo in playoff games way....

Not that I really care but instead because I'm just curious. Why is this thread in US youth National teams instead of MLS youth development? Many young MLS players discussed here aren't eligible for US national teams.

Well remember that Hernandez and Luna have been loaned out, and Acosta & Sanchez aren't ready. And there's so much depth in central midfield (especially after the signing of deGuzman), it's understandable that Ulloa is down on the depth chart. (personally I question Ulloa's talent level) Leyva will never be USMNT-eligible, so he's as relevant to this thread as Fabian Castillo is.

So we're really talking about one player...............Jonathan Top.
Now that Blas Perez is back, he's going to get the bulk of the playing time up top in Schellas' 4-5-1. There can't even be an argument about that. I think we all hope from now on that Blas starts, and Jonathan comes off the bench. Jackson up top really doesn't work. I like Jackson, but that role doesn't suit him.

One thing to keep in mind...................

People say that Schellas and the FCD front office appear to be on different wavelengths regarding their attitudes toward these young players....................the question is which front office. The previous ones? They fired their general manager Barry Gorman this past off-season, and replaced him with Fernando Clavijo. Gorman had only been on the job for a year and a half. Some of the kids, like Leyva, were actually signed by the regime prior to Gorman's led by Michael Hitchcock. Those previous regimes seemed to be "all in" regarding the signing of young players from the academy. We're yet to get a feel for the current one. However, it was this front office that acquired deGuzman, it was this front office that just acquired a veteran Argentine forward in Jara, it was this front office that acquired a whole host of foreign players over the past 6 months.

I'd argue Schellas and the front office now ARE on the same page............it's just not the page that we Youth Nat observers want them to be on. It's OK if Schellas doesn't want to use kids. Sigi Schmidt doesn't and people don't eviscerate him on these boards.

The loan almost certainly came too late in the season for him to get a real shot in SA. Maybe next year.

2:18:55 if you want to see a glimpse of what people love about Renken.

Also worth noting he took 2 set pieces, both of which were pretty good. Floated them a bit, but the Timbers got a shot out of each (and a handball shout on the second).

Best part is the kid looked healthy out there. Finally.

Agudelo's development didn't stall because he's in MLS. It stalled because he couldn't get game time. No matter what team he's on, no matter what league he's in, he can only get so good in practice.

Omar will be back very soon. He hopes to get in a reserve game by his birthday, whenever that is. And he is excited to help his team whatever way he can for a playoff push.

Good news, I've been wondering when he would be back (Salgado). I wonder if they will send him overseas again this fall? It not Vancouver's concern, but he won't see much action before the U20 qualifiers next Spring.
