Luna's expected to get the start..............but unfortunately he doesn't qualify as an American or as a youngster.

LOL good one....why play youngsters when you can play 3 CB's and push your below average LB up to mid...

Meh, he isn't ready to start imo...maybe a game late in the season when the Gals are locked in to the playoff spot. Best now to get a few sub appearances then a good run out in reserve games.

I think the Galaxy are more dangerous when Magee is at MF and makes those great runs into the box. Buddle should be returning in a couple weeks though, and that will take some minutes away from Jose.

He ended up playing 14' tonight.

They should part ways with Hyndman..........you build up a great youth program only for it to be put on the side so the coach can bring back players who don't belong at this level anymore but carry the experience of once kicking a soccer ball at that specific field . Hyndman can't correctly manage his players fatigue through a season. Crash out of CCL because of this.

yeah I agree. It makes no sense to me when different parts of your organization are clearly not on the same page.

Why would Hyndman go anywhere? The club has had it's back-to-back best years as a franchise under Hyndman in 2010 and 2011. That's why he's there, and he's not going anywhere.

This year has been a downer, but we can all see what a difference a healthy David Ferreira makes to their first team. They're going to be a real spoiler in the 2nd half.

We can talk all we want, but FCD is one of the few teams that routinely has 3 or more homegrown products on their gameday roster. Last night Luna, Leyva, and Top all saw game time, and Victor Ulloa made the bench. (plus they started non-homegrown Fabian Castillo, who's actually younger than Luna and Leyva) Youngsters are seeing game time for FCD, just not as much as we'd like. By the end of the season I bet more players under the age of 21 will have gotten into a match for FCD than any other team.

How many minutes has league leaders San Jose given to homegrown players this year? I believe the answer is exactly zero. And 2nd place in the West Real Salt Lake? Any game time this season for Lalo Fernandez and Nico Muniz? How about 3rd place in the West Seattle? I believe the answer is still exactly zero. I could keep going with the analysis but will stop. Last night FCD gave more minutes to homegrowns than the top 3 teams in the West have all season combined. Those teams either don't bother to sign homegrowns in the first place or have signed kids people probably don't know are actually on their rosters. So let's not spend an enormous amount of time complaining about FC Dallas.

Dallas is only using the young players now because of massive unavailability issues. What's ironic is that they're getting better results this way. It's similar to the Brek Shea situation, where Hyndman didn't give him a chance until his hand was forced.

    http://prosoccertalk.nbcsports.com/...demanded-brek-shea-play-be-sold-or-be-traded/

As for the argument that Dallas is doing better than other teams in the west, that's a pretty low standard. Salt Lake City doesn't have anything like the local talent pool Dallas does, and if you look at what they've done with Luis Gil and Sebastian Velasquez, their first team has shown a fair greater commitment to development than Hyndman has.

i mean don't get me wrong, i don't know much about fc dallas outside of what i hear from these boards, so he could be doing a great job. I just find it interesting that FC Dallas seems very committed to it's youth, while he isn't exactly warming up to them... granted they might be a bit too raw at this stage and he doesn't want to risk results and his job in the off chance that they might develop into a young talented core, but at the same time why have all these homegrowns on your roster if you aren't going to focus your resources into prioritizing their development. To me it seems counter-intuitive. And from what i've heard FC Dallas had a lot of injuries at one point in the year which seemed to force their hand... i didn't get a lot of vibes that they were exactly ideal options fo hyndman

I'm just wondering if people out there want Schellas Hyndman to play Victor Ulloa over a current Canadian international in de Guzman? Who would do that? Who would start Bryan Leyva over a current USMNT international in Brek Shea or the most in-form player on the team in Castillo? Who would start either Top or Luna over a current Panamanian international in Blas Perez? [Those two have gotten time since he's been injured] Who would start Moises Hernandez at right back over Zach Loyd? Who would give Richard Sanchez playing time over Kevin Hartman?

FCD's starting XI when healthy essentially writes itself other than centerback, where they have to find time for 4 MLS-caliber centerbacks (Pertuz, Hedges, John, Ihemelu).

    ---------Perez------
    Shea---Ferreira----Castillo
    ---Jacobson-de Guzman
    Benitez-John-Pertuz-Loyd
    --------Hartman-----------

MLS rosters are 30 people deep. For a team like FCD without any competitions other than MLS to worry about for most of the season..........that means essentially 2/3 of their team has to sit. Hyndman is getting playing time for the kids when he can. His primary focus right now isn't player development. It's trying to get back into the playoff race, and I don't know who you sit from that starting XI to do that. With Perez out he's given two straight starts now to Luna with Top coming on as a sub.

I don't think people realize that FC Dallas has only lost 2 games in the past two months. Bash Hyndman all you want, but with the return of Ferreira they're a pretty tough team. They're going to be quite the spoiler in the second half.

Also, I'd say only two of these players are relevant to this thread: Top and Acosta. The others either aren't US-eligible, are playing for Mexico, or older than 93's.

Given that Dallas' starting XI hasn't been close to intact this season, that's a total red herring.

Hyndman's track record is one of under-valuing young players like Shea and McCarty and over-valuing the likes of Scott Sealy. Regardless of how you feel about his performance overall, there's not much point in denying that.

Hyndman is a quirky bird. Discipline, maturity, etc. are big deals to him. He uses this phrase "emotional intelligence" to describe what he wants from his players. I don't know what that is exactly, but it sounds like something kids don't have a lot of.

We should let it go I guess.

The only players who are relevant to this thread are Acosta, Top, and Sanchez (93's and younger). Acosta isn't ready, Sanchez is 3rd string keeper, and Top has gotten 3 appearances for FCD recently. There's been some discussion recently about whether Top is ahead of Luna on the depth chart. That would appear not to be the case as Luna has started their last two games.

uhh not after signing a professional contract with FC Dallas. He had verbally committed to Maryland but that's out the window now.

Will Trapp is definitely in the mix. He captained the Milk Cup team, and many feel he is in line for a HG contract with Columbus after the college season.

I imagine Zach could see some good minutes if/when Philly is eliminated from playoff contention.

Hopefully he made enough of an impression on Tab to win the spot.

Buzz is saying we aren't going to be overwhelmed :) We're not bringing in Robin van Persie. I suspect it's some out of contract guy being brought in to provide depth.

I know there are people out there who say "They should just give the kids a try!!! Why sign another forward?" If they'd lost their last three games instead of getting 7 points perhaps they would have thrown in the towel on the season. Then they could have gone with the youngsters. {Top, Luna, and Castillo] Instead they're seeing at least a sliver of hope, and they need some competition at the forward position.

Except that they got 6 points from 2 games while the youngsters were on the field.

Example of how Jason Kreis is willing to give an extended run of starts to a player who didn't have any experience when he arrived. That's how you test a young player's mettle and help him be ready for the years ahead.

It's been RSL's track record ever since he arrived. Not long after, he acquired Yura Movsisyan and Will Johnson in exchange for a few bags of potato chips.

So let me get this straight.

Schellas Hyndman has been playing the kids..............and he's getting criticized on this board for not playing the kids.

He didn't have to bring on Bryan Leyva last game. He could have brought on Bruno Guarda at that earlier time. He didn't have to bring on Jonathan Top last game. He could have brought on Jackson. He didn't have to put Ulloa on the gameday roster, as he has plenty of other midfielders he could have put there. But he chose to use his young homegrown signings...............

Yes. As has been stated multiple times, he only started playing the kids because his hand was forced by player unavailability.

Just like Brek Shea sat on the bench until Hyndman's hand was forced.

I don't know about Guarda, but Jackson has been out with concussion symptoms.
