I'm guessing you didn't much like it.... If it can't stack up to Shawn of the Dead......Then it's dead...
Wow, I didn't expect this much hatred for the movie. I'd be really curious to everyone's top ten zombie movies. For any top ten list I don't think it's fair to include Shawn of the Dead type zombies movies, as they never take themselves seriously anyways.
The movie was fun, though crazy. Made me think a bit of I Am Legend. I like the traipsing across the globe. That nuclear explosion was a nice touch reminding everybody of the chaos below the clouds. Also, flipped through the book and it looked interesting. It is on my reading list. And I'm gonna audit Isjimte's class.
The movie reminded me a lot of War of the Worlds. Just summer entertainment - not great, not terrible.
World War Z didn't live up to the hype. A budget of over $340MM (for 89 minutes???) should have done much better. Not even close to the drama and tales from the book. Really disappointed. Except for the very beginning chaotic moments there was very little 'fright'. The CGI mode was overdone. I don't mind running zombies but the movie had 'super zombie' style running. You could never really focus on 'death' at your door because of the way it was shot. Scenes like the end were too hard to believe (from plane crash to WHO?? ) with no in between showing the true hardships of survival. I don't need every scene to be a zombie filled scene but understanding the chaos that surrounds an apocalyptical scenario is so much more entertaining. They should have just hired Robert Kirkman and Frank Darabont to create what should have been a great movie. My TOP 10 in no particular order: 1. NIGHT OF THE LIVING DEAD 2. DAWN OF THE DEAD (ORIGINAL) 3. DAWN OF THE DEAD (REBOOT) 4. DAY OF THE DEAD 5. 28 DAYS LATER (TOP 3) 6. LAND OF THE DEAD 7. THE DEAD 8. DEAD SNOW 9. DIARY OF THE DEAD 10. RESIDENT EVIL
I was in Paris with my 10 year old when the movie came out, and the posters were everywhere. The tagline on the poster for the French audience was "******** Evil." My son thought that was very cool.
Details! I am still vacillating on seeing this. Ender's Game when it comes out too. The books emphasized people and situations and ideas, which I loved, and I am not sure I want to see that/those become action films.
Some article pointed out to me that Brad Pitt really isn't a blockbuster star - don't think he's ever done 200M domestically while guys like Tom Cruise and Will Smith have multiple $200M blockbusters. Without looking - know who has more domestic $200M movies than all three (not combined)?
I think both Tom Hanks and Johnny Depp qualify with more 200M domestic gross movies with I believe 6 each, but not the guy I was looking for. And I think Tom's list includes Toy Story movies which I'm not sure whether they should count.
