I don't know how anyone can talk about 30 years of history when 2, 4, 6, and even 8 years ago there was more then enough Dutch games featuring all orange kits that were well covered on television. Even their 1988 Euro Cup win was in all orange, although the shirt had a different shade and print.
I agree, im pretty sure Holland are the home team. I brought the shirt today. Only one they had left in the store and it was in my size. I'm taking this as a good sign for Sunday!!!! appleCORR
That's not actually accurate. The reason they wear orange is because William of Orange was Protestant- and orange is the colour of Protestants. This religious stance was taken over to the Netherlands, and with it went the colour orange. It became adopted by the country from there on in. Not sure if that's why William of Orange became known as William of Orange, or whether it was just a coincidence.
congrats on gettin the last one. before the cup started, i bought one of each to add to my collection. a netherlands home van der vaart and spain away alonso. and i saw that the winner of match 61, which is netherlands, will be the "home" team.
^^^ Definitely. He was of the House of Orange, which was around long before the Protesant Reformation. It's like being a Tudor or from the House of York in England. I think the color is associated with Protestants b/c William of Orange joined in wars against Catholic France.
I want to get the Spain away one, its a really nice shirt. Id like it in long sleeve though. appleCORR
yea theres a couple of long sleeve kits i'd kill for. Mexico away Germany away Spain away too bad they don't make em long sleeve..
I love reading these forums just for moments like these. I reckon the Uruguay home shirt with it's dodgy collar is the most strange piece of apparel in this WC.
^^ just saw that on the tv when they changed to the red jerseys. that star, imho, is a tad on the large side. makes me think of china...lol
