It's true. He almost never went to the Oscars, nominated or not, preferring to play in his regular Monday night music gig.

"You start off with very great ambitions," Allen said. "You want to make 'Citizen Kane.' Then when you get in the editing room you realize that you screwed up so irredeemably that you'll edit the film in any configuration to avoid embarrassment. You put the beginning at the end, you take the middle out, you change things. The editing process becomes the floundering of a drowning man. That's been it for me from the start of my career."

My original title was The Bop Decameron and nobody knew what The Decameron was, not even in Rome. Even the Italians didn’t know. So then I changed it to Nero Fiddles and, um, and half the countries in the world said, “Well, we don’t know what that means. We don’t have the expression.” And, you know, you do go through this on a number of movies. So finally I settled on a generic title like To Rome With Love, so everybody would get it.
