It should also be noted that 2 current assistant coaches on the Iranian national team (Omid Namazi and Dan Gaspar) were born in the United States. The previous head coach of Iran's national team, Afshin Ghotbi in a naturalized American citizen and former USMNT assistant coach under Steve Sampson. It likely doesn't matter much at all that Diego was born in the United States
Brian - How's Diego's english out of curiousity? They make it seem like he's fully fluent in it. Is it that good?
Has signed with San Simon who were just promoted to Peru's top division and won the 2013 Copa Peru http://depor.pe/futbol-peruano/diego-chavarri-regreso-iran-y-ficho-san-simon-moquegua-1008163
Not sure the story with this, but for your guys' sake, I'm going to do some more research- http://trome.pe/fiesta/enterate-que...e-confesiones-shirley-arica-noticia-1657377/3 @bungadiri - Simon Says Score: Diego Chavarri at CD San Simon
San Simon 2-1 Sporting Cristal (both links with video) http://www.libero.pe/san-simon-vs-s...no-celeste-visita-moquegua-en-vivo-2014-05-18 San Simón (2): Nicosia, Díaz, García, Stagnaro, Acasiete, Fernández, Mendoza, Rodríguez, Chávarri, Lovera y Díaz. http://www.goalazo.com/san-simon-vs-sporting-cristal-videos-2-1-may-18-2014/
Google Translate [7/12]: San Simon added a point from their visit to Sport Huancayo in the sixth round of the Torneo Apertura . Guided by Edgardo Malvestiti reached seven points and lie in eighth place. Jean Franco Rodriguez opened the scoring for San Simón header in the 27th minute with a header after Chávarri Diego center. http://elcomercio.pe/deporte-total/...-visita-contra-sport-huancayo-noticia-1742487 Sounds like an assist to me. Diego Chávarri @chavarri30 Futbolista Profesional
This goal that Chavarri scored for San Simon on July 27 in a 2-4 loss to Los Caimanes was pretty damn good. It's the first goal in these highlights btw.. San Simon are horrible. Chavarri's career really isn't going anywhere except the fact that he played in Iran was kind of interesting. That being said, about once a year he hits an incredible goalazo.
The reports in Peru suggest he gets distracted by off-field issues and isn't focused. He has talent but his mental approach always seemed a bit off.
I would love to see him get trials in MLS/NASL. He is talented, and I think that talent (limited stuff I've seen) can translate well to either league.
Distracted, unfocused, talented but with mental issues? Hmm ... he would do well here. To clarify, I wasn't thinking about MLS. I mean here on BigSoccer - on this very thread, actually.
San Simon were relegated; Chavarri is still there and has started their first two games in the second division.
